I am wondering if anyone has tried using the pump off the 24 valve 8. 3??

It looks like it is a totally different pump than the vp-44. I can't remember the name of it but, I think it is a Cummins pump.

Nope

I thought of that years ago and when I ran It past my friends at Cummins it became apparent it wouldn't work.

CAPS ( Cummins Accumulated Pressure System), way to heavy, different electronics. It also had its problems but over all, its a way better injection pump. I'm looking at doing at P7100 conversation for a friend who is tire of the VP44. I would like to eliminate the ECM but need to find out how to keep the dash instruments working. I'm bugging Al at Piers on this.

Simple, leave the ECM where it is.

Unplug the VP( sure it's no longer there) and leave the ECM alone.

The only "problem" you'll get is that the check engine light is always on. Get rid of the bulb...

Voilà... . :D

Marco: Any idea if that trick will work on VW TDI's?

They use (I think... . ) a Bosch VP37, although the boost control and MAF would leave me to believe that it's a bit more complicated ECM than the Cummins.....

I'd love to convert to a mechanical pump on the VW - but losing the dash, HVAC (not Nowel..... ), etc. , wouldn't be too cool. (no pun intended).

First off, I find it's insane to replace electronic stuff whit mechanical... Oh well...

:D :D :D

I think it would work also with that ECM. Have never tried though.

Why not BOMB that ECM? Much simpler than a new injection pump... .

I've done several with great results. :{ :{ :{

Marco: Tell me more about BOMBing the VW ECM. Most ECM adjustments are done by just having an EEPROM reflashed, right? (Upsolute, etc... . )

I need a little more timing for all my fuel... . :D

Marco, the guy that wants this done is fed up with the electronics. He's on his third VP44 and fourth lift/transfer pump. All did fail, no miss diagnose issue, I trouble shot it each time. Two VP44 and three lift pumps under warranty. The lift pumps never did fail completely, once fuel pressure had drop down to 6-8 psi the pumps were replace. He depends on his truck to make money, so if its down, no income. The engine is stock but he has gauges. His old 12 V never quit on him, after 500K miles, he figure it was time to upgrade but has had nothing but problems. At first he wanted to drop a 12 V in it but thats when we started to look into the conversion. Did I forget to say he has also had harness and ECM problems. You figure it be easier to sell the truck but he has too many custom items on the truck, all work relate. Wish me luck and I'll post the results when I get done with it.

HoleshotHolset,

First off all keep in mind the VW ain't no hummin Cummins... .

With the ECM one can get to insane power/torque/smoke levels.

The only problem is that the engine will not hold up for long...

My brother has a 90Hp Golf ( Company car) we've pushed it a little too far, the turbo let go and the parts granaded a good part of the engine.

Who cares? The company my brother works for payed the bill... :D :D :D :D

I play they pay... ain't that GREAT:cool:

P Madrid,

sorry to hear about that guy! I said what I did about electronics simply because I love to play with them... :p

It's clear that all that electronic stuff and troubles with it can be frustrating!
