Steering rack bolts

Thanks, TDR Staff
It measures 5/8 as well. I thought that these trucks were all metric though? As for the calipers, I have to go grab another one since my calipers were given away with my reloading equipment. I think that I may have found one in mopar part #6506555AA. It's for a 1500 but it measures 9.5 inches long and should be the same diameter, it's worth a shot in the dark. I'll try and get a caliper and measure it out tomorrow.

5/8 and 16 mm are darn near identical in diameter. aka .625" versus .6299"
you need to look at the end of the bolt and the pitch of the threads to figure which you have.

He said it has the 10.9 stamp so it is metric and he measured it today with a caliper, 16mm.

Ok, its metric... you never know with some older stuff where the automaker was still using legacy components that were using SAE fasteners
while simultaneously using more modern stuff using SI fasteners..

What I don't understand is why the partnumber he posted in his opening post guided us to an M14x215 bolt.

older stuff, then part number has probably been superceded, eventually removed from inventory and then somebody in the old parts department got it wrong. :)
not the first time for that sort of thing.

I'm still waiting on part #6506555AA to come in, i'll post it here if it ends up being the same that way someone else in the same predicament can hopefully find this thread. You guys are great!

Quick tip for determining diameter of a metric bolt if you don't have a caliper. Just slide a combination wrench over the shank of the bolt. In your case since we know it was metric (10.9 marking) a 16mm wrench will fit over the shank. Same for all other size metric bolts.

For anyone who comes upon this thread in the future looking for the solution, part #6506555AA is not it either, that is also an M14. McMaster-Carr is the answer. You will have to mix and match colors, but it is possible to get it done with the parts that they offer.

Thank you guys for all of the help! I never dreamed that cutting that bolt was going to be more of a headache than continuing to fight with getting the nut off of it!
