Well has anyone? I am thinking about having a tailpipe bent up in 4" straight off the resonator, my question is will this help any for egt's and also how loud that setup would be. I have heard straight pipes and they are too loud at low rpm for me. Sorry I mean my better half.

I had this for 3 months over the summer. As far as EGTs I'm not sure I dont have guages. The in cab sound is really close to stock, its a little louder under 1500rpms. Outside its not as obnoxious as a straight pipe but it sure sounds good. Oo.

thanks

I'm getting a quote tomorrow, probably gonna go for it. I had the same shop do a 3" tailpipe on a ford 460 about 3 years ago. It was only $70 and the work was excellent, I'm hoping to pay less than $200 and get the same quality. The shop has changed hands due to a divorce, I'm hoping the prices are still good (Love to pay $80 for 4" but am realistic) and it's the same guy doing the work so I'm not worried about that.

BD was/is sellin a cat back system. The 97 and older had a bad bent over the rear end. your trucks isn't that bad over the rear. If u're gonna do anything to your exhaust u really need to do it right and ourchase a complete 4" exhaust. jrobinson1 came up with a good idea of of putting on a 4" exhaust, cutting the cat in half, gutting it. and weld it over the 4" pipe, just to fool who ever u needed to fool. Also we have used two mufflers (donaldson and an allied) together and it reduces exhaust sound, makes it a little more legal to ther naked eye, and u still get great flow and lower egt's than the stock exhaust.

I couldn't find a local shop with a 4" bender...

so I used 3 elbows and a shiny stainless tip to shoot it out the side ala ford. It's not really that loud. :D

I have straight 4" from the resonator back. It cost me $100. to do it with the help of a friend. We took the stock system off in one piece - in tact (just needed a little heat to get it loose). We put a straight piece of 4" aluminized between the resonator and a 4" Walker tailpipe. That pipe has all the right bends and cost about $40. I like the sound a lot. I don't think there's much of a performance advantage, though. The resonator helps avoid the dreaded drone, I think. Also, the resonator looks like a muffler if I ever get pulled over. :D

Where did you get the tailpipe from? I found out today the shop I wanted to do it can't bend 4". I also tried some local shops and they can't bend 4" either. I still want to run it that way, and it would be easy if I can find a tailpipe already made.

The Walker tailpipe P/N is 54150. The last one I used cost $55, but you could probably do better than that. It is about a foot too short(room for the chrome tip). I made hangers using 4" clamps and 3/8" cold rolled rod.

John is my friend who helped me. He's the one who got me the tailpipe. Glenn (aka Blackcloud) is another friend of ours who actually did this job before us. :)
