Competition Sutton takes Hilmar, California...

Competition Dodge wins!

I had to pull a Chevy out this weekend and had some fun in the mean time. Does anyone else run through a lot of mud? How well does your truck do? I was pretty happy with mine, especially considering I still have the original tires.

Well, I was going to attach a picture but it's like 200 times too big to post. How can I get a picture under 32k? I've already cropped it down.

I found it quite difficult to get em that small.

Ive ran bottomless mud and found she is a bit on the heavy side. If there is a bottom they do great because they find it. Other than that its a very expensive and effective way to block a trail.

mud

Yeah, I hear ya on the weight. I think that's why I'm going to go ahead and buy skinny mud tires instead of wide ones. I might as well get to the bottom of the hole as quick as I can.

I have to be careful, when I get in the mud, I sink like the Titanic. The Buckshot Mudders help, but 8,000 lbs. of a$$ does not help.

Truck does great since i got the locker. But weight is only 6500. Only been stuck once. And it took the bumper to touch the ground with a lift and 35's to stop moving.

mud

I've pulled out a lifted suburban while my truck was sitting in a foot+ water in top of an equal amount of mud. and havent been stuck yet with the new tires:D

I hear ya. I just got my 315/75-16's this weekend and didn't have any trouble whatsoever getting to an out of the way fishing hole. I even went back to where I had to pull that Chevy out and pretty much idled everywhere.

Before getting my truck, people told me that the diesel won't do very well in the mud. It made me think about it for like 2 seconds. Now I know they were dead wrong. :D

I was down in Savannah, Ga this past weekend after a couple of weeks of rain here in the South East. Savannah is the exit point for several major rivers in GA.

I tried turning around at a house that was near some marshes and almost got stuck.

I had to use boards to back it out. I have the TRXs and they dug in that bottomless black mud. If I had the old school bus Michelins I would have really been in trouble. The front hawg head was on pushing mud to give you an idea how deep I had dug in a matter of seconds.

Only bad thing about running in the mud which I don't do anymore (rock crawling for me nowadays) , is cleanup afterwards. I would set my Jeep in the yard and put a lawn sprinkler under it. It did a great job of cleaning and I got some GOOD river bottom dirt on my lawn as well! Just an idea for those who get up 3 days later and find a big clump of mud in their driveway, and wondering where it came from.

You said it man. I used to play all the time with mine but I like to keep it clean when I'm not playing and it's just not worth it anymore. Don't get me wrong, I still have fun just not as often.

I was driving through a small stream last month when I went home for leave and as I was climbing back onto the other bank the shoulder gave way (gotta love that 5k lb engine  ) and I slid down into the water. The best part was when I was trying to get out of it and my brother yelled "hey man, your wheels aren't turning"... that explained the "clunk" I'd heard on my previous adventure (busted the clutches in the rear diff). It was a good time though and my brother has some pics. I'll post them if he ever sends them to me. The truck was leaning so much that you could lift the pass side with one arm... . good times.

What's mud?

I've only been it mud once. And that wasn't on purpose. I was just glad I had ditched the stock tires for the MT/R. I would have got stuck for sure. As it was, dried mud was falling off the truck for over a month.

I thought about running in some mud. My truck is near 8000#, my winch can handle 8000#. That produces a couple problems. 1. I can't find a snatch block that can handle 20,000lbs (gotta have safety first)

2. No one I know has a truck heavy enough for me to hook up to and pull out on. I just pull them across the ground/mud/gravel/pavement/etc

skinny mudders work best if there is a bottom. as long as you dont high center too hard on the way there you are ok. around here, all byt the BIG ones have bottoms, its just how tall is the center on the way there that gets me. I am convinced that my rear axle is a recycled boat anchor because it always gets me stuck.

Two answers for ya Josh.

1. Winches are rated for their vertical lift (albeit on the first wrapping of wire) so yours is plenty strong enough to pull you out of a situation without doubling up.

2. If they park perpendicular to you, it may help. Otherwise, I'd invest in a pull-pal. Actually, it should be in the off-road kit anyhow.

Besides that, you won't get stuck, trust me...

I don't know, Udaloy, a 8K winch pulling a 8K truck would be fine with no load, but if its buried in mud or hung up on something, I'd guess you'd end up with a burnt winch and still be stuck. I've had my Jeep in some tough places and the 8k winch I had worked real hard and got hot pulling it out. If your winch is struggling, your battery is taking a beating as well.

Something to think about.

Man I hate mud with a passion, I never did like is mostly like Mtngoat note it is a pain in the butt to cleanup. I have alway perfered playing in rocks as I think it is more fun to do. I usually try to go around any mud I encounter, unless of coarse the road is totally block then I will go though it, but this does not happen very much.

Mud did you say "MUD?!"

I had the unique experience this weekend to attend the local mud races. The adrenaline was flowing after that I can tell ya. I did keep my self control though, that is until I was leaving! Another Dodge Ram was coming out of the wash out sideways and sprayed me good. i decided oh well much to my children's delight (one's 15 and the other is 12) and away we went. I was pretty impressed on how she did. I was quite afraid of getting stuck, but that never even happened, even though I have almost bald Pathfinders on it! I was told that I was moving pretty fast down that track, maybe a bit too fast even... haha. Thanks to the modifications I have it does run pretty good. The owner invited me to come back and actually run in the races told me my truck was plenty fast enough to contend with the other trucks. I might you never know. Now If I can get that new lift and the 35's, and a larger turbo and ... ...

I've gotta play in the mud as part of my job-lots of the leases have no roads in or out-just a trail through a summerfallow field. Mud is not my favorite thing because of the cleanup-I much prefer to play in the snow. Lots easier to shovel yourself out of-or get someone to plow it out when it gets too deep..... :p

Still, I do OK. Most of it is the tires I think-I love the TA MT/KM's I have on it now. Wearing surprisingly well and awesome traction-only problem I've found so far is when you do get stuck you pretty much need a tractor to come and pull you out-nobody else at least in my circle of acquaintances can get close to me :D Power never hurts either... ...

This last weekend, I took out my truck to try out my D25's and Bilstiens. I am still impressed with my trucks capabilities. The guy that I was there with was suprised that my big 'Ol Cummins didn't get stuck:D The the only bad thing was my truck is so big that I now have some nasty "redneck pinstripes " (brush scratches) on both sides of my truck:rolleyes: . Idon't mind the washing so much, it's the buffing to get rid of the scratches I have accumulated!
