took in my truck to get trans serviced at 121,000. When the pan was removed the tech stopped work and went to the office. The owner came out to look and called me over to inspect the pan. it looked like black sand in wine. So it is being rebuilt. shop tech noticed the aftermarket converter and asked about mileage on it. told him it was a triple lock from ats. said that this was the time to up grade to the new 5 star. Orderd it and waitingfor it and was just wondering what I could expect with the new TC. any info would be helpful.
 
I've had mine in about ten months. The stall speed could be lower - not much different than stock - but when the clutch locks up ... hold on! There is no slip at all. It's a little too abrupt when towing our 5th wheel. The Co-pilot makes it feel like a manual trans.
 
I know some pullers who had the original triple lok and went to the 5 star. Not big fans of it. Broke one like the second pull and have heard many people saying they just wish the would bring back the old triple disk.
 
it was installed in feb '05. its just short of 100,000 miles. how much did i save with the triple lock up grade. shop owner said the signs in wear were normal not abuse. truck has 122,000 plus.
