Anyone running 19.5's?

Getting ready to order 3500 dualie and was wondering about the 17" tires. I need to specify rear end ratio (3. 73 or 4. 11) and was wondering if the 4. 11 with the 19. 5's worked out to the same as the 3. 73's with the stock 17's on them. Also what does the sport package give you beside the crome grill inserts and sport lettering on the hood?

The sport package as I recall



SLT- you get the chrome grill and monochrome everything, fog lights, and tow hooks.



Laramie- you already have the fog lights that is why the sport package is less for the Laramie than the SLT, monochrome everything, tow hooks, the other grill.



Neither has the word 'sport' on the hood or any where else, and I just looked to make sure.

PS do a search on Rickson or 19. 5 and on one of those threads there is a chart to find out what the new ratio ends up being with larger tires.

I just moved from the 16" to the 19. 5" on my 2nd gen.



Keep in mind there is no perfect tire. It is all about compromises. And whether you LIKE the compromises that you choose.



I have a dually and love the 19. 5's on the front. They no longer seem flat. The 16's always did no matter how much air that I put in them. The 19. 5's seem to track much better.



The rear end is another story. I just do not have enough weight back there. So I am getting a lot more bounce. I have already air'ed down to 60psi.



I am thinking about adding (sand | water | steel) over the rear axle. How much will I need? I don't know yet. I can either buy some sand bags from the local DYI or see if the county has some flood bags still available.

Check out Rickson for different shocks. That could make a difference. Or so Rickson claims.

No Sport lettering on the '03's.

How wacky would it be, I wonder, to run the 19. 5's up front and the 17's in the rear? All over the road? Anybody done it?

Dunno about whacky, but your ABS system may go crazy! Plus you'd have to carry two spare tires. And if you have a 4X4 you'd end up with different effective ratios in the differentials causing them to self destruct when you engaged 4WD - unless you were on some very slippery surface - like teflon or something!

One thing I did find out is that the body side moldings are deleted when you order the sport package.

Scooby, I have a 4x2, but you make a good point about the ABS!

if you were to run the 225/70/19. 5 in front and the factory 235/80/17, it'll work. the difference between those sizes is pretty small. the 225/0/19. 5 works out to 31. 9015" tall while the 235/80/17 works out to 31. 8031" tall. 98. 4 thousandths difference. not a problem at all... if you have worn out tires and then put on a brand new spare if you have a blow out, you will have more like 0. 5" to 0. 75" difference in diameter [1/2" tread depth, worn out to say 1/8" left, that's 3/8" shorter, per side of the tire, so 6/8" or 3/4" shorter tire. ]
