I run a Smarty with a Comp and my father in law has just my old EZ... ... ... ... . wants the low end like I have and WANTS a Smarty. He doesn't want a pump tap box. Can we keep the EZ by running Smarty on even numbered softwares and get a little extra over the Smarty?

Let me know if you've run this combo.

I ran a smarty (even settings) with Edge Juice. It was more usable power. Throttle was very sensitive on the upper levels. I have bad throttle control and ended up with too much smoke

This is a very interesting question. Can't say I have heard of it before. Seems like it would work just fine becasue the EZ is the same as the Comp in the lower settings. The SMARTY does control the throttle response much better. Best thing to do is try your SMARTY on his truck and decide. Keep us updated.

Since he lives a couple of hours away from me and I won't see him for a few weeks, can I approximate the combo by running my Smarty on 8 and turning the comp down to 1x1 or something like that?

The question I would wonder is does the comp 'use' the pump tap at that low a level? Or could I disable the pump tap?

comp 1x1 should be close, but I am not sure. I don't think there will be much difference between smarty #8 and EZ vs. smarty #9.

I think you could also untap the pump with your comp, I think it then acts like the EZ

It is my understanding that the EZ adds a small amount of fuel, not just timing, but to really get fuel the pump needs to be tapped.

Keep us posted.

Edge told me that comp on 1 is the same as EZ. The jumpers on EZ are similar to sublevels on comp. Tell us how it goes. Father-in-law has an EZ and might try the SMARTY if its a good match.

I have a guy running the smarty with puck on even levels as stated before, he had a ez on before but the puck had more power, he is selling both his chips if your interested.

I have a 2000 5-sp with the old edge box and no other mods. I also have the smarty to go along with it, but I have to say I am not a fan of the smarty. Yes you can run on the even numbers and everything will be just fine, but in the higher settings the truck is not to good as an everyday driver. Very touchy throttle, lots of smoke and no top end power. My experience is its better with one or the other. For everyday driving and pulling trailers down the highway, I just run the edge. Oh, also the cruise will not work very good with the smarty. This is just my experience anyway.

The guy here has a gdp fuel pump, auto trans vp44, gauges and he runs the smarty pretty high all the time and he doesn't have anyproblems using it as a daily driver

You have to drive differently with the smarty, the throttle response becomes extremely sensative. I can daily drive on SW9 without puffing black smoke quite easily. For highway traveling I use the smarty speed limiter to maintan my highway speed:D https://www.turbodieselregister.com...6903-smarty-speed-limiter-cruise-control.html

I've been running a Smarty on 8, a Drag Comp on no lower than 3x3 and Mach 1. 0 injectors, all fed by an HY-9, and it is VERY DRIVABLE. Other than Smarty's idiosyncracies with the cruise control, it is an incredible combo, and yes, it is daily driven in all kinds of weather and traffic. I for one love the throttle response.

I'm interested in the EZ/Smarty stack for my father in law's truck. Keep the responses coming gents... ... ... ..... :D
