Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) anyone running aeroturbine muffler?

Before I hook onto my fifth wheel this spring, I want to change my exhaust back to something a little more egt friendly. I was running a straight pipe for most of last summer, but got constant complaints from anyone sitting in the back about how loud the truck was. I thought it sounded good, the egts stayed down. I put on a dynomax (got talked into it by the muffler shop) and egts are up and the truck has no sound! Has anyone used an aeroturbine muffler on a 2nd gen 12 valver? I keep hearing more and more about them.

I really do not know what people see in running around without a muffler. Yea, the truck might sound like a tractor, but if that is what you like, just get a tractor. Anyone that has more then himself to think about, should look at all options before making that change. The sound levels in the front seat are nothing like those in the rear. Combine that with the dreaded drone, and you just ruined the families next vacation, or outing. Towing, the problem is twice as bad. I don't enjoy driving with a headache, and can't imagine to many others do either. This forum is full of guy's that straight pipe the exhaust, or run a modified one. It might make for good conversation, or even stroke the ego, but it is HELL to live with. I use my truck to haul our trailer, and the only time we take it along is while on vacation. I can not imagine towing with an open exhaust. It you like it this way, great. You have my respect. I have a 4" system that uses a large muffler, and I have a aeroturbine muffler in front of it. I used the aero muffler to get rid of the drone, it did a pretty good job, but it is still there, just less. The noise in the cab is reasonable, as is the sound from outside while empty. Loaded it rises, but outside it really rises. This is all I could ever stand, and I think all anyone else in the family could stand. Point is, don't get so caught up in all this hype, that you make your truck miserable when used. Also, the larger you go, with respect to pipe size,the more the drone. The more you tow, the more the drone, think about your ears and those of others that might have to listen to this unpleasant noise before you modify your exhaust. There is a very good reason Dodge/Cummins decided to run the factory exhaust you have.

ynot- yes I have been there. I ran my truck pulling without a muffler for a while. Now I am after something that sounds good while lowering egts because of the bombs that have been done. Back to the aeroturbine, I just want to know if it lowers egts versus other mufflers. Or is there another straight through muffler that will do the job sufficiently?

I am straight piped but have a dual 5inch exhaust, I dont notice it being overbearing in the least even when pulling.



My wife however wants to go to stacks so I am interested in this aeroturbine. I asked in another thread but not many responses. I know with stacks that being straight piped could be intolerable, I see alot like the sound of the aeroturbine and Yknot said in another thread it killed the drone. I wonder how it would be with stacks?
