Going to be installing my 4 inch system on Monday. I have the plans to turn it out in front of the tire, anyone else running thiers like this?? Any Pictures?? I purchased the setup from www.Airflo.com, for around 260$ if anyone was curious.

Peace,

Willie

I had the pipes in front of the wheels on my Chevy 6. 2 for years. The only problem I found was the build up of film from the exhaust on the wheels and rear quarters. I still have the original exhaust on my CTD, but when I do swap it out, I would consider going in front of the passenger side rear wheel. Let me know how it works out when you have it finished. :)

Nice pic Hammer, that is exactly what I am shooting for, minus the muffler of course, afterall, I am only 20 years old, might ask Santa for a muffler come Christmas 2020 lol. Thanks for the pic, and keep em coming

Go for it!

Hi guys! Been there and done that. Sounds good, looks good, but man what a mess it makes on the wheel/tire and quarter panel. :( Kind of vulnerable dangling low like that in front of the wheel. Eventually, I went back conventional and am happy for the experience.

FWIW,

When Ford intorduced the then new F-150 in 1997, its exhaust exited in front of the RR wheel. I don't think it was in the same place in the 98 models.

This evening I saw a black 2nd Gen 24V CC 4x4 3500 with side pipes. The whole package was good looking. I can only guess, but it must have been split because I saw the driver side pipe. Since the exhaust manifold is on the passenger side there must have been one on that side as well.

I think mine is less vulnerable now. I finished off my old rusty tailpipe backing over something. (icy snowpile if I remember right) I will soon have (maybe tomorrow, Rob) my traction bars on and it will be just above. WELL protected I would think.

I don't smell it like I did when I had it straight out the back. Looked cool, but the fumes end up in the bed and cab. I'm not sure this is any louder than the stock corner position except maybe next to a wall or guard rail.

The center cap was always black. The wheel still gets a light haze of crud. I traded my chrome for the black plastic caps with a guy here in town.

EDIT: BTW, in the first photo, you can see I welded together a slight offset. The 45* elbow if would kick the pipe down from the body or lower the muffler too much. (to clear the frame) It also let me move the outlet forward (away from the tire) and still use the space where the frame is higher.

Mine is similar to above, 4" straights with no muffler, and a t-piece adapter splits it out each side with Geno's 5" chrome tips. No smoke build-up just that sweet stereo exhaust note. Might have some pics when I get a teenager to help me send them from my dig camera.

No Smoke??? Sounds like you need MORE FUEL!:D No fooling around, that sure sounds (no pun) like a sweet set-up. If you're not overfueled, it is probably very live-able. I have lots of excess fuel, and the soot was too much.

I had the 12" long, 4" resonator behind the cat, with the pipe exiting behind the rear wheel. I yanked the cat & it got too loud in the cab ... that's with it behind the passenger rear wheel.

Next step was to route it straight out the back & put a turn down on it ... end of problem.

Dont Think it would be a good idea

To dump an oily soot on the surface of the tires. Remember that black soot is unburned oil. It might make for a slippery ride. Merv

Story I hear is Ford realized their error because the right rear brakes were freezing in cold climates.
