I guess I don't understand your question since methanol is commonly known as wood alcohol. Are you referring to ethanol (grain alcohol)?

I think he is.

Ethanol doesn't have as high of an autoignition temperature, nor as high of a latent heat of vaporization. Both make it less desireable than methanol.

Rusty, is there an alcohol form of butane? I mean we have Methane (CH4) and add the OH to get methanol (CH3OH), then we have Ethane (C2H6) and get Ethanol (C2H5OH) and of course Propanol (rubbing alcohol).

Is there a "butanol" and "pentanol" and so forth as we go farther down the chain??

Yeah, I guess what I should have said is "denatured alcohol", which is just alcohol with enough methanol to make you go blind if ya drink it, right??

What are the advantages of meth over alky?? Is methanol more or less corrosive on parts than alky?

I only ask because denatured akly is easy to get at home depot.

Where is a good source of methanol??

For any alkane there are "related" alcohols and if possable ( 3 carbon or longer) their isomers BTW the rubbing alcohol is isopropanol the other 3 carbon alcohol is n-propanaol
