Anyone own a Steyr pistol?

Looking for Ford Driver support group.

If anyone shoots this wildcat, or has had experience with it in the past, or knows someone who does, I'd appreciate hearing what your opinion of it is.

Having a surplus 98 Mauser made into something, and that something just may be this round. Rumor is its accurate in a good gun with a good barrel, and is a real barn burner ... ... ...

Comments???

I havent shot one. What are you building it for? If it's for target, you'd be much better off with a 6. 5mm06. Much better bullet selection.

It would be a neat caliber. Good for just about everything.

I have a 25-06 Remington 700. I suppose the recoil would be similar. Very mild.

Did someone say...."Model 98?"

... I've got an 8mm (7. 92) Czech CZ24 that I really like (based on the model 98 design)---hammers the crap out of the canyon walls when I'm out target plinking (or should I type: PLINKING!)

... . what's the calibre that you're starting with, if you're going up to a 6mm?

To each his own, but the 6mm-06 is quite a bit over bore capacity. It tears up barrels for not much increase in velocity. I have done some 6mm-284s that did not improve on the 6mm or 243. With some of the new super slow burning powders things may have changed. Now if you want speed, I have a 22-243 reamer called the Cheatah. :D :D :D (also overbore)

The gun is a German Mauser, Model 1909 Argentine... ... . have several articles that go into detail about this action; specifically that this was one of the best of all the surplus Mausers in terms of strength, but simply the best in terms the "slickness" of the action. (Apparently the strength title for the surplus Mausers goes to some of the K98s that were made for the Waffen SS--and has 3 swastikas (or something similar) stamped the action. . ?). The article was right, the action is the slickest I have ever felt on a bolt rifle; something to do with the way it was heat treated.

Anyway, it was sitting around (that is a felony where I come from... ) so I decided to do something with it. Not going to cost arm and a leg, smithy will do it up right, I'll do the stock. Debated over the caliber... ... . I have . 223s and stuff from . 270 on up. (anyone recall the thread on the killer . 340 Weatherby awhile back... ). Smithy has a reamer for this caliber, and after debating round n round I just said what the hay, this would make a good coyote/cantelope/misc small critter gun.

If I could post a picture of the groups this thing shot in its surplus form, you'd all crack up..... well, it doesn't shoot groups, it sorta shoots PATTERNS, yea, that's it. It shoots PATTERNS. The business end of the bore is pitted/worn totally away. The rest of the gun is/was pristine. No other rust (!), not even a scratch. Stock was even clean to boot.

Yep, its a barrel burner. But I won't shoot it all that much, unless I can afford another prarie dog trip someday. If I burn the barrel, I'll put another on. But unfortunately I don't shoot as much as I like (another crime), so I shouldn't have much to worry about.

Now that Cheetah sounds radical
