The ABS adapter disables the ABS system to utliize it for a speedo pickup, $500. 00 for that is steep. I saw a few "homemade" setups like this, but they didn't work well, I think the magnetic pickup has to be wired to a converter box to create the properly signal for the speedo to read it correctly.

This company: Abbott Enterprises, phone 800-643-5973 can make all kinds of pulse technology adapters. For instance she made the adapter for my Jeep to use a Autometer speedo drive for their electronic speedo in my NP205, convert to a two wire VSS to drive my stock 1995 LT1 ECM VSS controller and give me closed loop function with the stock computer.

If you need something along that line they are the folks to talk to.

I know this is an old thread but I can't leave it alone. I am new to modding CTD's but have spent the last 14 yrs living and breathing offroad rigs. The 241 is a good case. No suprise there. The 241 deals with long term high speed use better. That is how it was designed to be used.

The 205 was designed for intermittent use with occasional shots to high rpms. The oiling system in it is lack luster for 60 mph wheel speed. But to say it can't take the power is incorrect. The gears in it are nearly 2 inches thick! As far as shock loads, the 241 handles them better. Well, handles them differently, the chains stretch and loosen. Thats not my definition of strength.

The output of a 205 was also the heaviest thing available during it's production. And with a few more years of innovation the 32 spline outputS on my 205 are pretty stout. And there was no special kit and new housing to eliminate the SY.

Basically it comes down to use. If you drive high speeds with your case engaged a 241 is better because the oiling. A 205 is better for brute force and heavy use in an offroader. Look through all the years of TTC, there has only been one rig with a 241 (rebodied H1 Raider). Every other rig runs a 205 or an atlas.

But in no way is a 205 weaker than a 241.

You also didn't mention the difference in gearing, which I am sure has an effect in pulling.

If you want to really find cheap and unbreakable upgrades, you need to put the light duty truck parts out of your heads and look into medium platforms for solutions. Lots of medium duty trucks are sitting in knee high fields and in the backs of old farms rusting away. These are mostly divorced transfer cases with ungodly sized internal parts. While heavy, they will allow you to put anything you want to them for power. Just upgrade your axles accordingly. TTC competitions are a good way to deplete the salvage yards of useable parts for light duty trucks, not much else.

If I break the 241 HD transfer case in my dodge, I am doing something with the truck that I shouldn't be doing in the first place. (I am all for off roading, but not beating the rig to death just to conquer a boulder etc. ) I'll build a off road toy for such things, lightweight and easily trailered home when its mangled and broken in pieces.
