Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Anyone take their preheater off?

I know mine will run fine without it - just looking to simplify. It looks like it mounts in behind the lift pump, meaning I would need a spacer of some type if I retained the mechanical lift pump. Anyone know for sure or done it?

The fuel heater on my '98 12 valve is in with the fuel sedimenter, not the lift pump. The heater can be removed, and the sedimenter fitted back without it, and no spacer is required. See the post from Joe G in this thread:

The fuel heater is part of an assembly that also contains the fuel pre-filter that protects the lift pump. You want to keep the pre-filter.
