Wanting to install a subwoofer in my truck - I have checked out the JL Audio center seat Stealth box and I found this alternative -

Hot-Box Enclosure for Dodge

The JL box is a little high ($$) for someone like me that is not a big audiofanatic. I'm just looking for more bass and don't necessarly want to blow the windows out of my truck. This box even comes covered with OEM fabric, looks pretty good.

Just curious to find out if anyone has one or had any experience with one.

Thanks -

I picked up my JL 12" box for $200 no shipping since they were local. :D :D Keep on looking on ebay and craigslist.com By the time all is said and done you will be at close to $300 for that setup.

Good Luck

Thanks Dan - I have been looking and found several used Stealthbox's but none of them were anywhere close to $200

Most are in the $300 - $375 price range - I'll keep looking though.

Thanks again,

thunderforms

I have a thunderform mtx installed in my truck, it fits under the seat in the back, and comes with\without speakers involved, very easy to install.

Try dodgebox.com, or cardomain.com they will ship right to your door.

Bill

ECappleman - I searched the past threads on speaker enclosures and came across the one you custom made and I am still considering making one similar to that - Thanks

CHIEF USN - I keep a lot of junk under my back seat and don't want to loose that storage space, therefore I am going to stick to the center console speaker idea. I'm sure the larger enclosure under the back seat sounds better but it's still not worth it to me. . thanks

Jack,

I recently put the Hotbox in my '03. It sounds and looks good but at least in my rig it raises the armrest up about 1-1/2 inches making it somewhat uncomfortable to rest your arm on it. Also, the armrest no longer flips all the way up so nobody can sit in the center seat. It beats the heck out of the old box sliding around in the back seat but I think it could be improved upon.

Thanks dcscott - I figured someone out of the 20K+ members here had to have one installed. Appreciate the info.

I believe the link mentions that on the newer trucks it does stick up a little (couple of inches) but on the 2nd gens I don't believe this is a problem. I will check with them.

Update:

I wound up buying one of these instead of making my own.

The backrest does go all the way up, the seat is usable, very firm but usable & the sound is great! I used a 10" infinity & it gives plenty of thump for my listening levels. The armrest hieght is perfect for me.

bkroupa... .

how hard is it to install? i have the box already but the truck is at the dealer for blown transmission and bad injectors. any pointers for installing it? thanks... james :D

Nothing to it. Remove the four bolts that hold the seat bottom to the frame, slide the seat belts down out of the old seat bottom, unbolt the backrest & re attach it to the new bottom. Install the speaker & install it in the truck.

You will have to remove the inertia switch from the original bracket & remount it.
