I have the camper package with the extra stack of overload springs on top of rear suspension and was wondering if I can use airbags with this configuration. Firestone says they have a set for 2500 with "contact overloads" but I'm not sure they're talking about the same thing.

I just put a set of Firestones on. I don't know about the "camper package" or not. There is a bit of room to play with in the set up. I can't imagine that the extra springs would be any different as far as ride height goes. They work great, though.

yes thats what they mean the camper package has contact overloads. thats part of the package. contact overloads is just the term used from the type of overload springs used.

Yes, I've installed several dozen sets on 2 and 4 wd models, and the Firestone packages work well. You'll like them if you haul heavy and don't need a lot of articulation like off roading often requires.

My truck is lifted so the factory overloads never worked. I took them off and did my best to keep the articulation with the airbags. I wound up losing up-travel but I kept all my droop. Not perfect, but it works for today.

One thing about the above pic. On my truck the springs flex enough that I have difficulty keeping the bolts that hold the bottom bracket tight. On a recent trip the bolts came loose and the bracket slid around a little. With the bolts running from the bottom pack up to the mount, above the overload, there's a lot of room for flex and loose bolts there.

Not a problem if you don't wheel it, but on a rig that flexes, it could pose an issue.

I have a 3500 as I have a heavy truck camper. Early on I installed a set of airbags. I soon found they don't belong on my truck. When inflated they just unload the stock suspension causing poor handling. Best to allow the load to settle on the overload springs.

Agreed. The airbags just elevate the load. A swaybar and properly valved shocks make a huge difference in handling with a camper.

My application is with a 5th wheel and the bags helped keep the truck level, like it should be. Yes, I did notice that the rear end seems to handle differently and jump a little more in the bumps, but it made the last trip a much nicer ride and keeps the front wheels on the ground liek they shoudl be, not unloading over bumps.
