I was wondering if anyone had used a flow master on their 3rd gen truck? What about exhaust flow and EGT's?

Thanks,

joe.

Flowmasters-NONO on turbo

Normally aspirated engines create "pulses" in the exhaust, which the Flowmaster muffler was engineered to work with and noise dampen the exhaust sound. With any turbo-charged application, (gas or diesel), you have constant flow of spent combustion gases, and a chambered muffler is just going to serve to create a hell of a restriction. Use a straight through muffler designed for the "big" trucks, you'll have a good sound and much better flow, lower egt etc. I run a Donaldson muffler I got at a Freightliner dealer for <$60. Works very well, not noisey at all.

To answer in a nutshell, NO, I haven't. BUT, have read many an article on the subject written by people in the industry with far greater credentials than mine. I have to believe those who work with diesels every day. Still don't believe? Call Diesel Dynamics and ask for Keith.

reason I asked, we flowed a flowmaster a couple years ago and it flowed very well. On a flow bench there are no pulses. I have never tried it but I see they claim to have one that works.

did it flow as well as straight pipe? :D

if flowmasters were so great for turbodiesels, every 18 wheeler on earth would have them... those trucks live and die by their powerband and their fuel economy.

stacks count? pointing the exit up really quiets things down. strait pipe people do not care about the noise. I would assume he asked about a muffler because he does.

Oo. Just ordered the new 50 series flowmaster for my 2004. 5 truck that is designed for the diesel Oo. . UPS site says it will be delivered monday. Than I have to have it installed. Sure hope it sounds good.

Im with Forrest why would you want a chambered muffler on a turbocharged Diesel just doesnt make any sense. You don't want restriction.

I just checked with the flowmaster web site. The did not yet have an application for a 2004 diesel. The 50 series was not for the diesel. They have a diesel series for slightly older models.

I've had a Flowmaster 50 Series on my truck since August 2003, with no ill effects. I'm very pleased with the exhaust note..... noticeably louder at idle, sounds great under WOT, and no drone at highway speeds that lots of others seem to always **** & moan about. On October 09, 2004, I dynoed 336 Horsepower and 665 pound-feet of Torque with EDGE on 4 and an AFE Magnum Force Intake w/Torque Tube. On a recent trip to Myrtle Beach, SC last summer, I obtained 22. 7 mpg hand calculated..... running 70/75+ mph w/AC thru the hills of TN on I-75 and thru the hills of the Carolinas on I-40. Say what you want, but I'd rather have my Flowmaster than two mufflers and a resonator that I've read some on this and other sites installing.
