Does anyone out there have the Mopar Cell Phone Holder (pn 8225269)? I was thinking of getting one to hold my GPS or hand held weather radio, but I am not sure if it will go wide enough. If anyone has one and could measure how wide it will go, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Vic...

I have one installed in my 98 Quad Sport and like it alot. It will open to 3 1/4" wide and accepts all cell phones I have seen. Now with that said I am not sure of how wide a gps or palm pilot is but there is the measurement you seek. Taken just a few minutes ago for you after slopping out into the pouring rain to check it and listening to my wifey telling me I am crazy,LOL. Then she reminded me I had installed the same one in her Durango recently and could have stayed dry,doooooohhhhhh... ..... Andy

Andy,

Thanks for the measure. My GPS is just under 3" wide so I guess I know what my wife is getting for Christmas! She is such a lucky girl. My Palm PDA is at work but if its under 3 1/4 too I can get QuickCheck and have a place to hold it. So many uses.

The Mopar catalog says the one they sell now mounts to the radio mount screws. Is that how yours mounts?

Thanks again.

Vic. .

Mine is mounted up high and to the right side of the heater controls. You need to remove the front dash facia(black cover) and the mount is held up there with 2 screws(provided). One goes into a existing hole and the other is a small one that needs drilled. It will not be seen after the facia is reinstalled. The only thing I did not like about the installation is the need to become Gumby and a person with four hands to do it(glad Mrs Hammer was home). After you partially install the top screw you will need to begin to replace the facia and install the bottom screw and tighten them with the facia behind the mount.

It sounds complicated, but, really it is more a inconvience to do it yourself thats all. See the mount for the holder has to have the facia slipped behind it due to it not fitting around behind it to reattach the facia. After the mount is in place its a 3 very small set screws that hold the holder on it applied by a very small allen wrench. One thing D-C does that I did not like was to have the power source from it come from a cigarette lighter plug with a extra socket. What I did was to remove the plug and run the wire direct thru the dash to the ligher power source and still have the use of the 2 lighter power sources for other electrical devices needed when traveling at high speeds,LOL. If I can find my instructions I'll be glad to copy them and send them to you so you can see what i am talking about. Hope this helps... ... . Andy

a quality option.....

for some very high quality options, check out the Ram mount products. I have used thier stuff in the truck and on dirt bikes and they have some very good products with mix and match components (no affiliation here)

When I picked up my truck at the dealer I went to the Parts Dept. for an accessories catalog. The guy at the desk said he had my first accessory in stock for $30. It was the cell phone holder. Every person that has seen it loves it! I have 3 friends w/TD's and they couldn't wait to order theirs. I'm going to rewire it like the other member said ( much cleaner look). The plug is the only weak link.
