I found a local wholesaler who will sell a case of 6 one gallon jugs for $68. 53 plus tax. The specs look good and I don't want to jump to a full synthetic yet. I might switch at around 10,000 miles because winter is coming and nights are getting chilly. Any opinions? Thanks :)

That oil will not meet the new API CJ-4 specs. as it is currently formulated. NOt that your truck would require a CJ-4 oil, but I would suspect Castrol wil be re-formulating it very soon, as the 07' engines (after 1 Jan 07) will require the CJ-4 oils.

AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 Heavy Duty Motor Oil (PCO)

Hi Wayne,

The CJ-4 spec doesn't really concern me yet. I have a 2006. I was just looking at the AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 Heavy Duty Motor Oil (PCO). What's your opinion on this blend? What group oil is it? I am afraid to go full synthetic just yet. I have 8K now and will have 10K at the next change.

I would do one more dino oil change then switch to full syn. I switched to Amsoil HDD 5W30 back around 4K miles, but I have been much harder on my truck than most. I think you'll be safe after the next change.

BTW - Amsoil say you can convert at new, break in will still occur, it just may take longer. On our long wearing trucks, you may not want to wait that long. :-laf

Thanks Diesel Nut,

It's true what they say. The waiting is the hardest part. I thought I would have had more miles by now but don't. If I can hook up my oil pan heater soon I'm not going to worry about it. Based on past experience with synthetic, I believe in it. I hope the winter is mild.

Joe,

Thanks for asking about the Amsoil Synthetic "Blend" 15W-40 Diesel oil. To be specific, the base is a group III, IV, and V "blended", then the additive package is added for the final product. This oil is a high quality oil, but not as high quality as the AME 15W-40 or the HDD 5W-30 oils.

Hope this answers your question.
