Ok I installed a Holley Blue (14psi) pump last week and bypassed the stock LP. I am only seeing 9 psi on the gauge pre and post filter. So we took the same exact pump off of my friends truck (only difference in his an mine is his is 99 mine is 01), and put it on mine. He was seeing 14-15 psi constant out of his and I am still only seeing 9 psi out of his pump also. When hooked inline with the stock LP we saw 30PSI:eek: . I don't understand this so we are ordering a Holley Red (7psi) pump and going to try it inline with the stock LP. Has anyone else had this problem?

BS- Holley makes perfectly good pumps however I believe I read somewhere that these pumps are not rated for continuous duty. Thought I read it on the SummitRacing technical pages but I just checked and couldn't find the source; perhaps another TDR member can chime in here.

Run a search on the Registry; there are lot's of posts on experiences with various pumps. From my last read, the boys at Product Engineering may have found a good replacement for the stock Carter with the PE-4200 as a pusher. Take a look here PE-4200 Thread

As for me, my truck is still real new. My FP gauge shows the stock Carter to be suprisingly strong: idle at 16psi, crusin @ 14psi, trailer pulling 11psi. :)

Yeah I had a really great LP also 14-15 at idle 11-12 cruising and 8-9 WOT. Then about 2. 5 weeeks ago a brand new Ford PSD pulls up with temp tags next to me at a light with his girlfriend and you know you can't just let that happen. You should have seen the look on his face when I left him in a huge and I mean HUGE cloud of smoke (THANKS TO MY GREAT FRIEND AT DMZ Diesel performance) even roasted the 35"s for them a little however when I wound out third I heard a popping noise and saw white smoke and 0 on the FP gauge. Well after changing the lift pump myself, she ran great but was hard restarting and finallly after a week it was all I could do with about a minute straight of continuous cranking to get it running. It took out the injection pump also, so she went back to the local 5 star dealer in stock form. About 2 weeks later I got it back with a brand new injection pump not a reman. So now I am preventing this from happening again and since the stock LP's are JUNK Carter pumps, then I really don't want to use another JUNK pump from Carter like some kits use. I want a really realiable pump and DMZ has been running these Holley's for 2. 5 years and never had a problem.

I've used Holley blue pumps for years on off road trucks. IMO they are anything but reliable. The most we've ever gotten out of a pump was 2 years which is less than 100 hours of running time. AFAIK Holley does not rate them for continuous use. Several guys tried holley pumps back when we were first looking for other options for a lift pump (about 2. 5 years ago) - all of them failed fairly quickly. The stock pump is not mounted in accordance with the specifications from federal mogul (used to be carter) which is for the pump to be within 3 feet of the fuel source. Based on the number of guys on here running a carter pusher pump at the tank feeding the stock carter pump on the engine and the few instances of failures of those pumps IMO it is the most reliable option that has been found thus far (50,000 miles in my case whereas I went through 4 stock lift pumps in the 60,000 miles prior to that). The only other pump right now that is showing promise without having a lot of failures is the PE pump but there aren't that many out there yet and they don't have much time on them. JMHO

Everyone has there own opinion, I wont share mine. Check my Sig. I have been running the 815 black since May '01. It was used when I put it on (Thanks for the free pump John AKA sportbike)

Am I the only one having this problem? Is everyone else using this pump getting good pressure? How about those using pushers inline with the stock LP what pumps are you using? What pressures are you getting?

Pumps

Bigstick,

I'm running a Carter P4601HP pump by the fuel tank where my dead pusher once lived. I also removed the stock LP. At idle, solid 13PSI. Comp EZ on 5x5... no less than 10 PSI.
