Anyone using the Cummins RoadRelay 4?

Anyone using this? It looks like it would be a great product fot those like me who are wanting boost, egt, GPS, fuel economy, and such all in one box. Not to mention the diagnostic capabilities...

Time to call Cummins and find out how much $$$$$. If not too bad, I may have to try it.

I believe Road Relay will give you monitor access to the same data points as Insite. I haven't compared the 2 on a point by point basis, but you can read a lot of data.



Downside, it does not give you a very important point, EGT. Both systems do not have a pyro input.

Almost cheaper than getting the GPS, OBD III scanner, Boost and temp gages, thermometer, and a compass. But I think that I can live without the frills.

INSITE?

INSITE is Cummins S/W for a PC to access the ECM.

The annual fee for INSITE is close to the single cost of a RoadRelay system.

i called cummins and the price for this unit is around 600. 00 if anyones interested ( that was with a dash mount unit) they advised me it would take approx, a week to receive it from the factory. if anyone is interested in it the cummins part # for a 2001 5/speed is 4005954.

road relay

I had looked at them and was very interested but had read ( I think here) that CUmmins was having a lot of problems getting the road relay to work with the 2001 cummins for some reason. Something about the program in the road relay not compatible with the ECM/PCM programs i think ( but may be wrong).



ALso I have only seen it on the web and in magizines, anyone have the dimensions for it? WOuld it fit in the dash if you took out the two middle air ducts above the radio?



If anyone knows if the program problem has been taken care of or if you have the dimensions let me know. $600 isnt too bad when Powerstore has it listed up around $800-1000.

i spoke with a person at cummins southern plains who advised yes to his knowledge the software issues have been corrected for the 01/02 trucks. i don't know the actual dimensions for the control head but i know the unit is available with either a dash mount ( enclosed w/a mounting bracket) or surface mount ( designed to be mounted flush in a dash or something similar).

Instant Economy feature.

cool thanks. Anyone know if the instant economy feature will work on a 2001. 5? The Gals/hour does not work on my Quick Check II and it says in the manuel that it would not work on 2001(for what ever reason i dont know) but figure that it would probably be the same on the Road Relay (same "sensor" or lack thereof)? ANyone know?

i believe it does work now, i think it was corrected with a new software release but i wont guarantee that

I just got off the phone with Cummins on an unrelated issue and inquired about the Road Relay. The parts guy said Cummins is not dealing with them any more in the small engines cause of the high price and lack of demand. Take it with a grain of salt cause the same guy never heard of early 24v cummins needing new injector connector tubes.

They are still doing the Palm Pilot thing for about 300. It's almost real time and pretty neat.

the road relay is still available for 2nd generation, just dumped it due to lack of interest on the third generations.

If you are just interested in the diagnostic capability, I'm guessing that would be cheaper to just take it to Cummins and have them read your ECM codes every time you have a problem. Chime in if I'm mistaken.
