Hey guys I am installing the jacobs kit on my 05, I have the directions but the pictures stink as far as the mounting plate for the vacume pump. I cannot figure out which way it goes on, i think I see how it should go but the fan shroud mount is in the way and it says nothing about it so I am either wrong on the location or they missed somehting  If anyone has done the install and knows on the 05's please let me know and if you have pictures even better. Thanks

never mind, downloaded the nice and clear pdf from Jacobs and all is well helps when you can actually see whats in the picture, but man what a PITA to install that brake... .

Installation of the Jake isn't too bad, it just takes some patience, so don't rush. The most critical part of the install is aligning the Jake to the turbo outlet without damaging that delicate coated steel shim gasket. One bump of the Jake against the turbo and the gasket dents and the coating flakes off. I should know . . . I had to but a replacement gasket @ $32. 00 (Ouch!). Before I installed the replacement, I practiced about a dozen times with the damaged gasket until I got the moves down right. Be sure to remove the RF fender liner and the RF tire for better access to the work area, thus reduced risk of damage. You'll like the Jake, it works great. Just my . 02. ;)

Jake Brake

I am really interested in what you are doing because mine was installed two weeks ago by a dealer and after they had my truck for 3 days called me and told me they discovered it would not work on the 2005 48RE. So now have brake but cannot use it until Cummins comes up with the software fix for the 2005 Auto. The guy that installed mine is at this e-mail address: -- email address removed -- and I am sure he would respond to your questions as he seems like a good guy and knows his way around the cummins, however he works for the dealer and was the one to do the install on mine. They read the part number from mopar as 2004. 5-2006 and 2006 Automatics to mean it included everything from 2004. 5 to 2006 models, a honest mistake and I read it the same way, however once they started the install they did not read the installation manual first which clearly states it is not for 2005 Automatics. How do you plan to get it to work on your truck? The mechanic told me he could wire it to work in a manual mode for me but I would have to be very careful to switch it off when the transmission got to hot etc. , however Chrysler customer serice center scared me when they said using it that way could effect the warranty on the engine, since I only have 37,000 miles on it, so told them not to hook it up and am waiting for Cummins to come though now. Good luck and I will be your biggest cheerleader for getting it to work.

Well you guys have to understand that I was one of the early subscribers to this BB and have been doing things that Chrysler says no no to for a long time, I have a pacbrake on my 01 with a DTT transmission that has been great that truck has 160k on it at this point. I will be installing the electronics from Pacbrake as they have a nice kit that disables cruise controll and has the pedal switch. As far as waranty goes I am not concerned about it at some point I will be going back to DTT anyhow for a transmission upgrade since I miss driving that tight 01 so much. Besides if you know anything about how the transmissions work and what Lock-up feels like and what the brake should sound like in lock-up then you know when you should and should not have it engaged. Tow/Haul on the 05's does a great job of a lock-up pattern.
