anyone with a chiped key had their truck stolen?

Just wondering if anyone with a chipped key has had their truck stolen. Marco is building an anti theft program into the Smarty, I'm wondering if that's necessary with the truck that have that system?

If they want it bad enough they'll get it. Just insure it and let it go.

I've asked this same question a couple of times here. Never got any responses of any being stollen.

Ditto with Klenger. One thread discussed this at length and there were NO posts concerning whether a truck with a chip'd key had ever been stolen. Also, no one responded with info concerning any attempted theft in which having a chip'd key/ignition prevented the theft. I also sent an e-mail to the Nat. Insurance Crime Bureau inquiring about same, and never received an answer. In short, NO INFORMATION one way or the other.

I think they look for easier targets like keys left in the ignition or trucks without the chipped keys. And of course if they really want that particular truck they can always load it on a flatbed like a previous poster mentioned. That's not your everyday thief and probably poses a very minimal threat.

These trucks without the chip key don't have a dealer master key like many imports from Japan do they?

They tried to steal my 2006. The ******* punched in the door lock, which is the easiest in the industry to do this to, then ripped out the plastic on the steering column, then had all the ignition wires hanging out but couldn't wire around the key chip ! Bottom line. $1400 damage, had to get doors repainted, truck was gone two weeks all this because he was so stupid as to think he could wire around this chipset in minutes. I now have a state of the art alarm on truck and a huge steering wheel lock with a siren in truck. I just wish I would have caught him in the act, oh boy !!!

They were talking about the special laws in Texas on a Repo Man show on Discovery (or History) channel. Don't mess with Texas.

Same happened on my dealer lot to a customers truck in service.



They could not get it started... . So they stole the wheels

I guess better then stealing the hole darn truck though!

Not that I know of. Our master key is making a new one with the dealer issued diagnostics computer

Good luck with that. ALL alarms do the same thing, "state of the art" or not. And all can be disabled very easily. Steering wheel lock is useless since all you have to do is cut the wheel to remove it. Use the money spent on all this stuff to add extra insurance for accessories and let it go. Can't spend you whole life worrying.
