API ratings (diesel): CH-4, CG-4, CF-4, CF . anybody know what these particular api ratings mean? thay come from john deeres synthetic 0w 40 oil just wondering what thaey mean thanks?
The "C" stands for Commercial service or if you prefer Compression ignition. The second letter refers to the latest API rating "H" being more current than "G" etc.
What Bob said, but I'll add another thing. The latest "C" rating is CJ-4, which is used in the engine built AFTER 1-1-2007. CI-4 was before that. BTW, the -4 means 4 cycle engines.
