2017 Dodge Charger - many issues - is this the new normal?

OK guy's I need your help on Apple Cat play. The love affair that my wife had with the Apple car play is on the outs! In less time than a month!

I did ask about the Apple Car Play on a Hyundai forum and after 58 reviews with no responses, I have come to forum that I know will help me!!!

Here is what I posted.

This question is for my wife. Since she drives the Santa FE and this is mainly her vehicle.

Every once in a while the Apple Car play will not link with her Apple phone which is an "SE" model bought new in 2020. She is trying to do this wirelessly (Bluetooth) since this is an 8" screen and not the larger screen which I believe is a 10" screen. The phone will work seamlessly if I or she uses the Apple lightening cable to connect her phone to Apple Car Play thru the USB port.

Has anyone else experience this issue? Should we take this to the dealer or is this just a quirk of Apple Car Play? This is the first vehicle we have owned with Apple Car Play in it, so I am learning as I go with this.

Thanks in advance!

Side note: The 8" screen which is standard on the Santa FE SEL allows for Bluetooth connectivity and the optional 10" screen for some reason only allows Apple Car Play with the phone plugged into the USB port via cable. Go figure!!!

There are 2 TSB's related to this, or very similar.

Says do not replace the radio its related to the Apple IOS software.

There is a second TSB it references for certain modles there is a software update available to help reduce the issue till Apple updates its software, but its not in the list for the type of vehicle I picked.

I used the AWD version with standard 4cyl, not the turbo engine. No clue if that's what you have.

I can't post the TSB, we found this out last night on another thread.

That second one for the software fix might not even be available for your vehicle.

I didn’t even know CarPlay would work wirelessly. Every rig I’ve owned or rented with it took a cable.

Same here Jim. I have to cable in for CarPlay in my 2017 GMC.
The company Ford Escape also requires the cable for CarPlay.

But I rarely use it as almost all functions exist using Bluetooth.
The only exception being Google Maps, that works pretty sweet when run thru CarPlay.

Thanks again, I know TDR members would come thru!!

I didn't even think about looking for TSB on this issue on the internet. I am contacting the dealer service department to see if the any TSB has been applied to her car on this issue.

The car is an SEL, FWD with an N.A. engine, this was the only vehicle on the lot that was not AWD type or a hybrid. My wife did not want to pay for the extra cost of AWD in the SEL line up or a turbo engine vehicle. She even complained about the up charge for white paint but if she wanted that particular Santa FE SEL she had to agree with the cost of white paint.

I really can't blame the dealer for any really issues on this vehicle like this! Since the car rolled off of the transport the day before we bought it. We had to wait approximately a 1 hour extra at the dealership after we bought the car as the service department had to get the car ready for delivery.

As far as wireless connection working thru a Bluetooth connection, this is something new for the 2021 vehicles that are using Apply Car play lt least with Hyundai. Her car has a docking station in the center console where the phone can be placed without any cable which the the docking station will charge the phone.

The information station in the center of the dash board will tell the operator of the vehicle that the phone is in the docking station when the engine is turned off and you are exiting the vehicle.

I pulled it from ALLDATA so the dealer would most likely have the most up to date. It's pretty upto date, it already has 2022 stuff in the list.

Funny as it's lists these SUV under Trucks. It does that for all pretty much.

For a 2021 those TSB are a little different.

Here is the list from ALLDATA, and as always a TSB means nothing in most cases.

I'm sure posting the overall list is OK. I really never know, I think the sheets are off limits for sure.

This is the 2021 list. But I think the 2020 list with what you described could apply. The one listed here is a little different then the other two, so.using the actual.VIN and dealer will be a homerun.

Sounds like you have a pretty nice little SUV, I like the SantaFe.

Good luck.

Why do you think the sheets are off limits? We’ve had TSB sheets posted here many times, and I’ve seen them on other forums for other makes too.

IDK really, I could never find anything on the Alldata site I know I have permission to print the sheets out at the shop for sure, they allow printing. Sharing and storing on a file retrieval system is the

I think the whole for "educational" use only or whatever is not really valid.

Technically I usually only have my phone and the FCA ones are over the limit for the File upload when I print them as a PDF on my phone.

Here is what the FCA ones say at the top its the first line on the thing.
