Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) APPS Question on a P-pump

I have been reading all of the threads I can find and just wanting to make sure I understand the APPS. As the heading states I have a p-pumped 24v, although not in operation yet. Since the sensor was removed from the original housing to try to install it on a 12V throttle bracket, does this mean the sensor is bad. After realizing the original bracket would work with some fabrication, I re-installed the APPS on the factory bracket and started to check the voltage. The APPS sticker reads . 587volts. When grounding to the battery and checking voltage on the orange/blue wire on the PCM ( closest plug to the engine ), I am only able to get the voltage to . 104 volts. Should I first make sure I have the correct input voltage of 5 volts. If so which wire would the input wire be. In one thread it stated " Do not remove the sensor from the bracket as the sensor will not be able to be recalibrated, and must be replaced with an entirely new assembley. Is this correct? I am not trying to get out of buying a new one just wanting to make sure I don't make any more mistakes. Also the sensor has not had voltage applied since I started this project 10 months ago. Need more hours in the day.

Why do you need a 24v APPS on a 12v pump? The 24v APPS (manual transmission) only sends a signal to the VP44 computer for fueling and the 12v APPS controls torque convertor lock up.

The APPS on the 24v p-pump sends a signal to the automatic transmission for shifting. According to HTS, DTT, etc.

That it might. I am most familiar with manual transmission APPS. Hhmm. I'll have to think on that for a while.



OK, thought about it. Yes, the auto transmission 24v APPS bracket does have a place for the auto transmission kickdown cable to mount onto the crank arm, but so does the 12v. But I don't think the electrical part of the 24v APPS sends any signal to the transmission. There is an idle validation switch in the 24v APPS which is used to signal the injection pump but I don't remember ever hearing about a signal for the auto transmission itself. I am pretty sure that some of the guys who concocted homemade APPS apparatai (a real word?) have auto trannys and they never put anything into their gizmo's that sent a signal to transmission. I'll do some checking.

If you end up needing a 12-valve TPS (equivalent of the apps), I have a new one I'd like to sell.
