HELP guys. I have an 01 ram CTD 4x4 with an auto trans(no mods, factory truck). I need the APPS reset procedure for this truck!! I unhooked both batts. when I left it at work tonight. I will re-hook batts. in morning and then do this procedure. Please help!

Connect batteries (only have to leave disconnected for 30 minutes) turn key to on position (not to start) slowly depress go pedal to the floor and slowly release (slow is the key) turn key to off position. Start as you normally would. If this doesn't cure what ever is going on do a search on APPS. What's going on anyway?

I have done a search on APPS, TPS, and VP44 codes. Truck has extreme dead pedal and acts like it is not getting fuel. I did not have a fuel pres. gauge handy, but I did have a lift pump. I changed the pump and no change. I am pretty sure it is the pedal issue. Thanks for the response!!

I just went through this a few weeks ago. The APPS went out first then for some reason the brain part of the VP44 went dead. Mine was hesitating, cutting out, longer cranking before starting and at times dieing. I could be going down the road and it would start bucking due to the engine cutting out. Do the key on/off three times and see what shows in the odometer window. I finally took it the dealer for a diagnostic to find out for sure what was going on. I can tell ya that if it is the APPS get ready for a hefty price. I was told the ones for autos are around $500-600. It cost me just under $400 to replace mine.

Thanks guys. After scan with a snap-on MODIS and key cycle to get codes, I found 7 codes. Some dealt with vehicle speed sensors, and oil pres. sensors, which were unrelated to dead pedal. But I found the PO216 which set me after VP44 injection pump. I am having a dealer diagnos the brain part of the VP44. We will go form there. Thanks again!!

Dave :)

I'm doubting you are going to get out of the dealer without a new VP. I'd try to get them to install "your pump" (you purchase elsewhere = save $$$$ related their part cost + markup) and seek a refurbished one from Cummins.
