On my way to work today, cruising about 70 mph I noticed first what seemed like the truck came out of lock up ( auto trans) followed by the transmission downshifting on its own. The check engine light came and I had no go pedal. I coasted to the shoulder. While doing so everything returned to normal for a few seconds, but I then again could not accelerate. I pulled over, waited a few seconds and it came back. Truck drove fine the rest of the way. Got to work and found 2 codes

2123- Pedal position sensor 1 high

2121- pedal position sensor 1 performance rationality.

I did a quick search and found some guys having problems with faulty APPS and TPS sensors but these were on mostly 03 models. Just wondering if anyone can tell me if the sensors are in the same spots on my 04. 5? I am currently at work and unable to access any Dodge diagnostic information. Any info is much appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

I believe as of 2004. 5 all the APPS units were located beneath the driver side battery. Very easy to access once you remove the wheel well liner.

The only other location was on top of the intake manifold, right in front of the intake horn. A big black box with the throttle cable going into it.

I call both of the units "APPS", although I've heard people refer to the one on the manifold as a "TPS". Anyway, you only have 1 of them.

On the 04. 5 and up trucks the APPS sensor is part of the pedel assembly. If you look at your "GAS" pedal under the dash you will see that it is part of a large sensor assembly. The apps is part of that assembly and is directly related to your DTC 2123 and 2121. Both codes relate to the APPS sensor and I have had to replace pedal assemblies before... about 2 over the last 3 years.

Thanks Rich,

One more question. Does the sensor on the pedal communicate with another module under the hood as Ryan was describing? Or does the reading from the pedal sensor go directly to the PCM? I wanna check the obvious ( bad connections/ wiring) before I start throwing parts at it.

Thanks, Mike
