I have read many posts that consist of 2 or 3 different views of resetting the APPS/TPS. I have a 98 that i need to reset, but haven't found the procedure in the service manual. Can anyone confirm the proper procedure to reset it? Thanks.

I am only aware of 2 differences in all the procedures:

1) how long you leave the battery disconnected - 2 hours, 6 hours, or overnight?

2) whether you depress the accelerator down once, twice, thrice?

If I were to do the procedure, I'd unhook the batts overnight and depress the accelerator once. Then cycle the key off/on and drive.

The '98 shop manual doesn't specify an amount of time the battery needs to be disconnected to "reset" it, but a couple of hours should be fine. Reconnect APPS, batteries, and turn the key to "on" (NOT "accessory") and SLOWLY press the pedal smoothly -- without stopping -- to the floor, hold it there for a brief second, then let it up slowly and smoothly again. All done. Ready to go. If it seems quirky or jerky or anything, ensure connections are clean and good and repeat the procedure.

Be careful taking the black plastic cover off the APPS housing/VP44. The fasteners are black plastic phillips and easily are broken... . i speak from experience.

New APPS is smooth as silk.

Thanks for all your responses. I've disconnected the batteries and turned on the ingition to the run position. I'll hook it up tomorrow and finish the reset. Thanks for the help.
