Off Roading Arctic Cat ATVs

Just got a family package 650 4x, 400 4x, 250 and a 400 DVX. I did some research before buying, but wanted to know if there are any particulars I should look out for.



I mean, I seem to remember hearing AC for a long time when talking about snowmobiles, so I figured that they should put together a pretty reliable ATV. What caused me to go with AC was the 12" ground clearance, 10" wheel travel and the 6. 5 gal gas tank. No other ATV came close in these three areas. I know you don't get those numbers with the DVX or 250.



I like the fact that I can manually lock in the front differential on the 4x's. And it seems like the front and rear rack systems are pretty well thought out and versatile.



Let me know what you guys think or if there's anything I need to watch out for.

I also bought some AC this spring and love them. A 700EFI and a 400 for the wife. I haved owned AC ATV before and they are great machines. They have always been leaders in the catagories you mentioned. You can check out this site for more info.

I dont know about the newer ones or really even about the older ones for that matter. However I met a guy who rents ATV's as his business in the summer time up in the mountains here. I was talking to him when I was up there once about why he ran AC atv's (I was not familiar with them at all). He said he ran them because they breakdown the least. Said he had ran all the brands over the years and the AC's were the best at least for his needs. Which was up time and maintenance costs.

These are things I was hoping to hear. Not because I don't want to hear if they have problems, but because, like I said, I figured Arctic Cat has been around so I guess I was banking on their reliability. I know they're not totally trouble-free. In fact, on my 650, the reverse override doesn't work so it will be going back to the dealer.

Love my two,----2003 500's,manuals. One for me and the Mrs,and even upgraded the tires to Mud-Lites(26inch). I drove Suzuki King Quads for 12++years and like these ones better,even though the motor is made by Suzuki in the Arctic Cat. Two weeks ago we all went for 6 days of riding/camping(2 rides a day)Now thats a vacation to me---do it every year.

I bought Polaris, not because of being a better machine, because of the local dealer not wanting to deal. I have always liked the AC, and have heard good things (mostly) from the owners. It is like this, take care of your machine, and it will take care of you, the same can be said for anything.



You really do not need anything over 300CCs in a ATV in my opinion, unless you like spinning tires and going fast. In fact I have pulled bigger logs than a 800 Polaris, and have climbed hills a 650 AC couldn't make. . Gearing, balance, and usable power is what it is all about. Have fun, I will be on the Rainbow trail next weekend if possible... Oo.

Only problem I've had is the cooling fan fuse blew on the 650. Turns out this is a known issue if the fan is running when you hit deep water- the fans stalls in the water and takes out the fuse. They should have used a circuit breaker for the fan motor rather than a fuse (which is what I'm changing to).

Some people install a switch to turn the fan off before dunking. Doesn't work for me since you don't always know when you'll find deep water here.

I owned one AC and hated it, it was a 400 4x4 it was a great mudder but the center of gravity was real high and made for a real tippy ride a sway bar in the back will make it ride more like an SRA quad but kill its articulation. that was my one venture outside of an honda and i proabbly wont do it again, Im sure yours will be great
