I don't know a comparison, but I bet it has more torque than comparable gassers. Torque is what is really needed in an ATV. It is easy to "turn up" the power on these little engines. I did it on my Polaris and my Kubota mower. I would say the 2-cylinder (inline!) is smoother running than my 1 banger Polaris. I am definately interested in it, especially since it is properly fueled.

It would be nice to have a single fuel on a long Baja trip, and the ATV looks like a great choice. The other one I saw recently in a four wheeler magazine is this. Sort of like a diesel Rokon.

That Ecorider thing is pretty neat. I have read up on it too, but I really need an ATV and I really WANT diesel. I sent an e-mail to Roush and this deisel model is currently only available to the military That sucks!

I contacted them almost 2 years ago, and they're still cranking them out for only the Military. But then again, the price will be pretty high for a "fun" bike. About double the $ of a gasser.

While I'd probably rather have an ATV in Baja, either one would be fun...

That is cool! I suppose the good thing is they will be time proven and tortured by our military before the civilian version is available. I want one now! The ATV preferrably, but the crotch rocket is pretty cool too! There is also the Diablo diesel ATV I posted on a while back, but it is only available in Europe and uses a 3-cylinder Yanmar engine. THAT is the one I want!!!!! My Polaris is cool but I want a newer, more reliable machine too. I am also interested in a diesel golf cart, which I may end up building myself... That would be cool!

I understand having diesel in your veins but, I hate to say it, a better, more reliable ATV or side-X-side is going to be gas and I sure wouldn't want to be the test bed for something new. Ask someone who's back from Iraq about military diesel performance.

Yeah, the diesel Chebbie pickup I "signed for" in Desert Storm wasn't the best. I did a lot of preventive maintenance on it to keep it alive. Our Cummins are a zillion times better.

But when I was in Baja, the fuel sources were unreliable. Diesel was never a problem, but gassers were filling from old 55 gal drums outside of the major towns. And it's just so much easier to have a large single tank in the bed for both...

But for the US, gas wouldn't be a problem.

I would have to disagree on the side by side thing. If I had the need for one of those, I would have NOTHING other than the Kubota RTV. It comes EXCLUSIVELY as a diesel. I just want an ATV built that well. The side by side machines are nice, but way too wide for trail riding and getting around in the woods. I love my Polaris, but it has a lot of hard use on it and has not been all that reliable. The gasser 600 Polaris I had was even worse. I will have a diesel, but I will give it time. As for the military trucks, well, ya get what ya pay for. The chev diesels were the cheapest thing going. What other reason is it they have a nice vehicle and run a crappy 6. 2 or 6. 5 in a Hummer? As for the ATV's, they will have to be tough to withstand military abuse and conditions. If someone makes the ONLY diesel powered one, it will get purchased by the military, who relies on diesel power almost exclusively. Cheap bids will not be a factor in a market where there is no competition. I really look forward to the Arctic Cat machine to be released to the public. I will not be the "testing ground" on it because it will have already had the "bugs" worked out by the military by the time it becomes available to the public. I look forward to it because i want diesel power for torque, reliability and one fuel convenience, plus the "cool" factor! ;-)
