just to help get things rolling, ive looked at both blocks and at first glance i think that they are besically interchangable i heard the head bolt pattern is the same and i would assume most of the other things are the same since they are in the same spot. i don't really definatley know tho because i have never really worked on them to where i could say that these are just observations that i have made and thought about. hopefully someone who has taken both engines all the way down will chime in

I would rather take my chances with grinding it out and welding it with nickle rod than the exspensive lockstitch method. We bought it for parts only anyway, we had no plans to fix the 53 only replacing it. I think it will make a good mock up motor for biulding TWINS !!!!!!

The blocks are interchangeable, BUT... The 24V used striaght-thread sensors with an o-ring seal. Hence the term "STORM" block which you may have heard. It stands for Striaght Thread O-Ring Machined. The 12V uses all NPT threaded sensors. And to answer the next question, no, the sensors are not interchangeable.

Don't bother with trying to repair a 53 block. Even with the lock & stictch it can still crack, just not in the same location as the repair. Get a good block, and don't worry about it!
