Are all brake pads the same? I ask as I was just in Arizona and I noticed all of the vehicles down there have the same redish break dust on the front rims. I have never seen that on any of the North East vehicles. We have a blackish color.

What gives? Does the factory use different pad materials depending on where the trucks are shipped to?

Anyone have any thoughts??

I bought some of the "Value Line" pad from my local dealer. Said they replaced the standard pads. I say--el torro pu pu--I've never seen so much brake dust in my life. The money you save on the pads you spend on water washing the brake dust off your wheels once a week. There junk--IMO

The value line are the economy version :-laf lifetime replacement etc. They are not to be confused with OEM

Pad material is either soft or hard. soft more dust ,shorter life easier on the rotors. Hard less dust, longer life harder on rotors. thats been my expierence after 471000kms on my 2 wd.

I fought with rust on my wheels all winter long. Each time it got so bad I couldn't stand it, I'd get out the can of Neverdull & clean them up. Probably 4-5 times over the winter, first 12,000 milles on the truck. A month or so ago, I replaced the factory pads with EBC Greenstuff pads. 3000 miles so far, and no rust on the wheels. No dust to speak of either. Of course, we haven't had any snow / salt either. I haven't looked at my rotors to see how they're holding up.
