I am trying to find a solution to my problem but I am in need of some information first. So my question is will different Ecm's and Pcm's interchange with each other that are from a 2001 and 2002?

Ex.

Can an auto ecm go with a manual pcm?

Can a manual ecm go with a auto pcm?

Are there differences in the manual trans Pcm such as a 5spd is different from a 6spd or are they the same? Also would a ecm from a HO motor work on a motor with a 5spd or auto? What would happen if you put either one on a truck that it was not intended for? Any help is appreciated, thanks Andrew.

Andrew,

To further clarify; auto and auto, 5spd and 5spd, 6spd and 6spd. Then there are subcategories under each of those; drum brakes replaced with disc brakes in 2001. 5 which means the ecm for 2001 could be for example, 5spd disc brakes OR 5spd drum brakes. You may get the engine to run with a non-matching ecm but you won't like it as it wont' run correctly.

One solution, albeit expensive, is to see if Marco would program an ecm for you based on your truck. If you need a spare ecm to send him I have one for sale.

Godspeed,
Trent

I have both an extra Ecm and Pcm but they are out of a 2002 HO. The reason for the questions is that I converted my auto to a 5spd and have had problems ever since with how the truck runs and I cannot find any information on here when I do a search so I was curious to see it the two computers I have would work? Maybe I will check into getting one reprogrammed. Thanks for the info, Andrew.

Another big difference is the 01 & 02 manuals had the cruise control function 100% electronic within the ECM. Your auto gets its CC function from the PCM and a vacuum speed controller under the drivers side battery.

Your auto ECM also has a low idle governor that basically allows for the load of the torque convertor and maintain an even idle. Stick ECMs have an anti-stall feature that adds fuel when it senses load. So if you had gone manual to auto, you'd get a bucking, romping truck that takes a ton of pedal effort to keep stopped. Don't ask how I know this!

What kind of problems are you experiencing?

Well I converted from an auto to a manual so I do not have that problem but the problem that I do have is that the output speed sensor on the auto trans is not there so I can only rev to 2000 rpm in every gear. I was sick of this since I needed to drive my truck so i decided to try something. I put the Pcm from the 2002 HO on the truck and it runs great, but my cruise light stays on all of the time and on the other hand I do not have any of the fault codes that I had before except a 1693. So my plans are to get a Ecm and Pcm from a 2001 that will work on my truck so I will not have these problems ever. There is a guy on here that said his salvage yard has a computer interchange program so I am going to check that out and hopefully this problem will be resolved. Thanks Andrew.
