I'm swapping the oil pan gasket on my '92 Cummins... . I picked up a Fel-Pro cork gasket at the local auto parts store but then I started thinking if maybe a rubber gasket would be better? I don't have my pan off yet, I was hoping to do the job in one fell swoop so I want the gasket handy so I can put it right back together. Not sure what material the factory gasket is?

Any recommendations? Or will the Fel-Pro be fine?

How many times do you wanna pull the motor to change a leaky, defected, junk, el cheapo oil pan gasket? No Cummins distributor near you? I'd stick with Cummins parts/gaskets, its not a 360 gasser. Sorry if I sounded like a smartbutt. Just I know what I'd use when I get that far.

I bet someone can tell you more on the gasket material, I bet the oem is rubber, maybe with metal ??

Well thats why I'm making sure. The OEM gasket (assuming its the original on my motor , just pulled the pan today) does not appear to be rubber... kind of a dark grey/black "paper" gasket material.

Not aware of a Cummins distributor near me... I'm sure there must be as I live in a big Metroplex. Whats an easy way to find one... yellow pages?

Edit: Found a list of distributors on the Cummins website... . one right near where I work. I will call them tomorrow about the gasket.
