Wal Mart tires;

In one of the reply's above, "C" mentioned that his Dad worked at a Goodrich plant which makes Michelin tires and ". They also have some generic brands. "

Wonder if the Liberator is one of those Generic brands. .

What about that "C". . how about asking Dad !!

Wal Mart tires #2

Hey Deon. . I bet that lots of folks (Including myself), would like to hear how those Liberators work out for you as you use them. . Never know, you may have uncovered something good there.

I wonder if using the "Beads" in those would help

to extend their mileage as claimed ??

TIRES & STUFF

:) :) :) I GET MY HAIR CUTS IN AMERICA... ..... I HOPE I'N NOT IN THE WRONG HERE. . :{ I RIDE ON MICHELINS IN MY GERMAN CAR Oo. AND MY 99 DODGE RAM DIESEL TRUCK THAT I LOVE ... THAT WAS MADE IN I DON'T KNOW WHERE?? MEXICO OR CANADA?????? Oo. Oo. Oo.

I used to like BFG's, but when I learned they were made by the stinkin' FRENCH, I decided never to go with them. Now I can add Michelin to that list. Maybe I'm a fanatic, but I'm against any country that is against ours, and for me, that carries over into business too. But that's just me.

Just a heads up. Michelin makes a tire for Sam's club, it is identical to the Michelin LTX/MS Plies and tread pattern (E rated). I think it is called a Michelin X. They are around $135 in the 265/75/16 size. Don't know if they are made in the 285/75/16 size since I only use the 235/85/16 size tires. Hope this helps. By the way we live in a Global economy, Americans work for international companies. Unless you are very informed regarding the flow of cash you could end up hurting Americans and helping the country's you are trying to hurt. It's kind of like that with our trucks. Dodge is an American company (was) now owned by a German company and mine was made in Mexico, but it has a Cummins engine with a Mexican made block. Who knows where the other parts came from? I know I bought it from some Americans here in Springfield Missouri ;) So if you are going to boycott Michelin you better sell that Dodge CTD your driving since it was made by a German company and they were just as opposed to the Iraq war as France was. JMHO

The Germans and Mexicans didn't oppose every move we made before and during the war against the Iraqi regime. No Michelins for me.

America is the Greatest

Pit Bull, You are really right on. Just look at the clothes or anything esle in the house , Korea, China, you name it, it's SAD but true. in 1964 when i started in the work force I had a name and was called by it. I answered to it and got paid by it. Somewhere down the line i became a number and got paid by that. I remember getting told to go home at 4pm. I use to hang around just to get the job finished . I liked the work. I had 5 Jobs 2 of which were in High School. Today Kids might have 25 jobs before they retire if they get to do that. Yes there is a lot of things i don't like about the way we do in our country but it's still the greatest Country on earth and i'm proud to say i spent 38 yrs working for my country and i'm still proud of her. It's also kinda nice to be able to drive a Turbo Diesel down the Road. . I hope all of you will still be able to do that when your my age

load range

daveshoe, I know, the load range's don't make a whole lot of sense to me. I went to WalMart today and looked at their product catalog for the Liberator and Michelin tires. This is what was shown...

Liberator A/T LT245-75-16

Max load=3042@80psi, load range E (this is exact same as Michelin 245-75-16 M/S)

Liberator A/T LT265-75-16

Max load=2470@50psi, load range C (note this is different than website)

Liberator A/T LT285-75-16

Max load=3305@65psi, load range D

1) I'm not sure why WalMart's web site lists a different load capacity than the tire mfg book. The book I was looking at indicated that it was Michelin official literature.

2) I'm not sure of how the load rating mark is determined. The lbs rating to make a C, D, E, etc. must go up with the dimension of the tire. Makes some sense I guess but I don't know the equation that plays into this.

3) What difference might there be with a higher lbs capacity tire (285 vs 245) that has the higher rating with a lower rated pressure rating (80 vs 65)?

I haven't decided on the 245's or 285's yet. The Liberator 265's are out due to the low load capacity. I'll post my impression once they're on and used for a bit.

Cheers

-Deon

Deon, I think you will find that load carrying capacity is important and it should be at least up to what your OEM tires were rated. The load range "E" is good because they have the capacity and that they have the stiffer side wall construction which is important with our heavy trucks. You will notice this in the curves and turns. One of the reasons I want the Michelin XPS Tractions is for the all steel construction and the "E" rating, they are a very heavy built tire and with that stiff side wall they don't squirm in the corners and they wear flat. Hope this helps.

Personally, I don't use the load rating to compare tires. My MT/Rs are D rated at 3195 lbs. My Michelin 265 E rated tires were 3415 lbs. Had I gotten the Michelin 245 E rated tires, they are 3042 lbs.

So, my D rated tires are pretty comparable to the Michelin E rated tires in load capacity. But, they handle much better, especially on curves and turns. They are wearing much better. They work off-road. And, now my truck doesn't look like it has roller skate wheels.

Tony your tires look great on your truck. What is the size with the 315's? 32" 33"? I'm limited with the dually, because of the rears. :( I know a few members have gone to 255's with the dually wheels but it does not look that much different in the pictures I have seen, have not seen any 255's on a dually in person. I do have plenty of time to decide since I only have 10K miles on the OEM's and won't be changing until they wear out.

VIN code first digit will indicate country of origin. 1=USA, 2=Canada, 3=Mexico. All of the CTD's I've seen were made in 1 or 3, but then the parts come from all over the place.

I go out of my way to NOT buy items from CHINA. China is a Communist country big enough to KICK our BUTT when they get ready. All we're doing now is funding their political and military campaigns. I can decide what I buy and gladly pay more for items made ANYWHERE else in the world than China.

Politics--It's absolutely stupid that I can buy unlimited amounts of goods from a real political/military threat--like CHINA and can NOT legally buy one single fantastic CUBAN cigar.

My original Goodyears wore out at 32,000 since then I've been running Remington Wide Brutes 245/75-16 10 Ply MS load range E 3042 lb max @ 80 psi, made in the USA less than $100 a tire, Michelins at Costco were way more, not that I was going to purchase them. Previous set of Remingtons went over 64,000. Pull a 27 ft. 5er with a GVW of 11,460 lb. hitch weight of 1,500 lb. Had to play with the air pressure a bit to get even wear, 45-48 empty and 55-60 loaded. Just put a second set on a few months back. They have done well for me.

1996 2500HD CTD, 2wd ext. cab. 97,000 mls. auto, 3. 54 spicer 70 LS diff, Mag-Hytec trans and diff covers W/Westec gauges on the A piller, air lift air bags, Claret Red/Driftwood, rear slide window, Lil-Rocker 15,000 lb. 5th wheel hitch.

Remingtons sound good

Those remingtons sound like a decident Mileage. Maybe i'll try them after my French tires wear out. Oo. I avoid China stuff also when i discover it was made in China,I wonder where the Remington tires are Made?? I drank (Wild Turkey) Occasionally, and then i saw a list of stuff on the internet that was made in France and turkey was one of them, I prefer Turkey if i'm going to have a drink. I still got a little left under the Sink? I sure hope someone tells me that Turkey is made in the U. S. Too. Before i run out... ... . I hate Politics... .....
