I want to hard wire my radar detector into the lights (i do not have the overhead computer) of my 2002. Are any of those wires hot when the doors are closed?

Yeah thats my problem i dont have the overhead compass and thermo, so im not sure if there is any power there other than when the doors are open. Im hoping that the wiring is there even though the computer isnt so i can get some power without having to tear everything appart.

Never checked out how the non-overhead rigs are set up but don't you have two lights there that can be switched on all the time even without a key?

Duh okay yeah. Alright should be a constant up there somewhere. Thanks for allowing me to "see the light" no pun of course.

Why not wire it into the fusebox into a "ignition run" fuse (I think mine is tied into the gauge fuse) and tuck the wire into your A-pillar ? That way, the radar detector will only be on when it's needed. Just my $. 02 worth... ... .

Mine recalibrates (most a ton of noise) everytime it is switched on or off. Having it on the ignition is the most annoying thing ever.

I have wired mine to be on all the time for the last several years. On my 02 and now my 03, there is a hot wire in the overhead, (red/yellow) but I had to add a ground in the roof panel. Just screwed a short self taping with a wire attached to the inner roof panel. Just move the OH console mount to the side to get the screw in.

seedguy,

I wired mine up top like you want to do. There is a constant hot up there - I have no therm/comp up there. WhatI did was to wire in a cigarret lighter plug receptacle up there with a short wire and I plug my radar into it and its all hidden inside the pocket up top except just enough wire to come out under pocket and plug into radar. This way I can quick unplug and take radar with me on another vehicle.
