Been looking at trucks Mid size to Class 8 size are there ANY CABS THAT AREN'T SNAP & GLUE?

Pete and Kenworth have a few but far and few between, The truck industry is in pretty bad shape.

I know that they " are better now " than they were back in the 70's to that I say Horse XXXX but that's just an opinion.

BIG

Big, you're gonna have to settle for one of the last Mack R tractors. They're on fire in the export market. Or something from the late '80's to 2000.

Would be nice but I think that being used in a Commercial endeavor they would be required to be Retrofitted with one of the BBQ exhaust systems/ There is a year that they cant even be Retro-ed for Commercial use they become JUNK. My Intertrashional is just such type, as long as its registered in my name and not used in a commercial operation then I don't have to Retro to the BBQ exhaust but as soon as its used to make a buck ITS JUNK To the DOT.

Look into the fine print, and see it "BART" applies.

This means on an older truck, adding a Diesel Oxidizing Cat (similar to what the 04.5 has) and closing the crankcase. We did it to our older trucks, and worked till they aged out. Believe me, you don't want to get involved in '08 to present trucks at this stage of the game. If it were me, I'd be looking at anything midsize Cummins (ISM, etc) powered.

This is one reason that Glider Kits are so popular right now. The Emission Level matches the donor truck if a non-powered glider, if it is a powered Glider then it meets 2004 emissions. No DPF.

In some locale, there are local laws that mandate the BART rule on any truck of any age. I think this is what BIG is up against. You have to pick wisely a package that would work, and a somewhat healthy engine. In other words, a 6-71 is not a good candidate for this, whereas a similar vintage healthy L10 or series 40/60 would be fine.

I am not sure what you mean by a real truck cab. If you mean as in all steel, no fiberglass tilt hood and aluminum cab construction as not a real cab, than all you can get is a B model Mack or Autocar, I always hated it when a cat would crawl in through the holes in the floor or firewall tho:D

Follow the link and then the Reliability and Durability tab and that's a truck cab. The hood is also aluminum. The crack about holes in the floor board must have been something that I missed when I had a 1970 Pete with over a Million Miles on it when I bought it in 1976 and ran it for another 8 years the cab was JUST AS TIGHT AS THE DAY I BOUGHT IT

I think that the Kenworth line has similar cabs but use a fiberglass hood the main body of the cab is VERY similar in appearance. As for the dash that's been plastic for a LONG time. I drove a Pete 379 for a LONG LONG time at work. The main body of the dash was plastic with the metal inlay panel to hold the instruments.

Those Cat trucks are Kenworth body's maybe with a few cosmetic changes FOR THE WORSE they are the ugliest truck I've seen.

BIG, that 379 sure is nice. Probably the most traditional truck youll find. Even has a split windshield. Been hearing mixed on the MX engine. It's a European design IIRC.

The Western Stars are heavy duty. I ran some when I was hauling crude oil around where I live a couple years ago. Roads were very rough dirt roads, I beat those poor trucks around a lot (though not as bad some other drivers for that outfit did) and they took it and kept going.
