I was looking at this 33x12. 50R20 E/10 65 psi. tire, a Toyo M/T and at first glance of the specs I was interested but questioned the 114Q load index of 2600 lbs. thinking something must be a mis print.

I called Toyo and they confirmed. . no mis print. It is an E/10 ply tire with a rated load of 2600 ea @ 65 psi and are good to 99mph.

So the question is- If I don't overload the tire with direct weight how well will a 2600 lb tire perform in a panic stop with truck and trailer weighing in at 13K?

Kinda weird to see an E/10 tire with 2600 rating.

That is weird for a 10ply. I try not to run any tires with less than a 3000lb rating.

How much does your truck weigh full of fuel, gear and passengers?

I dont think they'd bee too "squishy" like C range tires are because they're 10ply and have a shorter sidewall so I'd think handling would be OK, you'd just have to be careful not to overload them.

Dont overlook weight rating for the rim either. Can you get a 20" rim that is rated for more then 2600 lbs?

No

I would not run them for safety of me and others, especially towing you can overload these real easy in a emergency stop. Weight transfer in a panic manuver is uncontrollable. I would downsize the wheel to an 18" and keep the same hieght and width of the tire and you will be over the 3000 lb pr tire rating. Be safe, Sam. ;)

I am curious. What are the stock tires rated at? I thought they were in the 2600 area. If through all of Dodge's testing, they found the stock tires to be safe, why would others with similar ratings be unsafe?

You must mean on a different brand, the 33x12. 50 18 Toyo M/T is rated at 2910 so it would give a 500 lb increase.

Good point on weight transfer.

Get the ones I did

Michelin XDE MS 245 70 R 19. 5 "F" Rated 12 ply at 4080# @ 95 psi

... ... The same diameter as a 285/75-16 (33") but the same tread width as a 265 tire...

Ricksons "Eliminator" Forged aluminum Rims 4500# rated. .

Those are nice but I think would not be a good match for a 8. 5" wide wheel.

specs for the m/t and a/t tire

tire... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... rim... ... ... ... ..... diam... ..... width... ... weight

33x12. 50R20 114Q E/10---8. 5-10. 0-11. 0---33. 0-----12. 6-----2600

LT305/55R20 121S E/10---9. 0-9. 5-10. 0-----33. 2-----12. 4-----3195

i don't understand toyo's reasoning for not recomending it for an 8. 5" wheel... it is a little narrower and a little taller, so it should fit a narrower wheel better than the 33x12. 5x20. . myself, i wouldn't think twice about mounting it on a 8. 5" wheel, but that is me [my 315's are on 8" wheels, when recomended is 8. 5"]

i've had 265's mounted on 6. 5" wheels before too... that is very common with gm folks [16x6. 5" wheels on the gm HD's ]

I agree. An 8. 5" wheel is plenty wide for those tires. I prefer narrower wheels. I have a set of 305's on 8's, a set of 35x12. 50's on 8's, and a set of 15" wide swampers on 8's.

P. S. , those tires and wheels look pretty sweet Eric!!!
