Hey I know twins kick butt on trucks with auto's and have great spool up and provide awesome acceleration when racing... But I have a 6-speed and dont plan on drag racing since its pointless with a NV5600.

I'm tossing around ideas and figured I really dont need the spooling benifits twins since im not drag racing. I want power but if there onlt 10-20hp difference between a big single and twins ill just get a Big 66 turbo.

Like I said before I'm fully aware of the benifit of twins on autos that like to drag race. But I dont have an auto or drag race. I'm going for high dyno numbers and pulling.

Give me honest info not "Ive heard twins are the best"

Also ATS seems to be the only good twin builder for 3rd gens.

Thanks guys.

I asked the same quesiton a while back and the majority of the people told me to go with industrial injections sps 66 or silver bullet. after doing the reaserch I'm convinced thats the way to go. Hope this helps.

You guy's are no fun. LOL.

Wow that's all you had to say...

I'm glad you guys are giving me an honest opinion.

Most guys say twins are the best, and they have zero first hand experience. Well yeah just because the Suzuki Hayabusa 1300 is the fastest street bike doesnt mean its the best or most practical.

It seems a 66Turbo is the best way to go for guys in my situation that have a manual.

Like I said before you can beat a big set of twins on a 2nd gen auto, but 3rd gen manuals are different.

If I had endless funds like D. Wiggs yeah why not and get twins but I'd rather not go through all the hassle involved, not to mention $$$.

Keep the good info coming.

Dan :)

I have a SPS66, and while it makes good numbers on the dyno, I find it totally laggy and not fun to drive on the street w/o a good downloader like the Smarty.

With the Smarty, I smoke people out on a regular basis. Same with the Bully Dog Triple Dog. I've had both. And I'm at sea level.

This summer at 6000' in 100 degree weather, it was funny how much smoke my truck made just taking off from a stop. Just like an overfueled 12v. And that was with a TST/EZ stack.

I have a SPS62 sitting in my shop that I'm going to install soon. I can't wait for a turbo that spools at 5psi instead of 12psi like the 66.

I was towing about 8k-10k the other day, and the turbo did a good job surging, too. You've got to keep the rpm's up with a big single to avoid surging. Not that big of a deal, I guess. Additionally if you have your fueling turned up to tow, it's hard to control the boost. Major smoke until 12psi, then it cleans up and pulls hard. Kind of like a 2-stroke getting on the pipe.

My advice- Drive or ride in a truck with the turbo or turbos you're considering before making a choice. I already wasted $1600 or so. At least I'll be able to recover some of it by selling my 66.

If I had an auto, I'd be completely happy with the SPS66.

Also, if you start out with a 62, it will make a great top turbo in a set of twins if you ever want to upgrade.

You mentioned pulling in your question, That is a different ball game. For the street you can put on a lag monster if you wish. The quick spool of the right set of twin's with a 6 speed on the street can be awesome. But to pull, a big single may be the way to go.

I have the HTT 66 and it is great, but if you don't have a lot of power adders, you might be happy with a slightly smaller verson like the 62 or 64. I'd suggest you call one or more of your favorite vendors for their suggestions.

Towing... . I would say twins. Good quick spool, good streetable power. Track and street... . I would say big single. You can build the boost and the line and make up for a bit of the lag, plus you'll get crazy spool once you hit anything from 15-30 MPH. Twins are a lot of $$$$ and can put a lot of stress on intercoolers. Plus you have more plumbing and hardware... bigger risk of something going wrong. II Silverbullet or SPS66 great reliable power... . cheaper then twins, crazy boost... . like other people have sorta implied... . it's all about what you use your truck for. Hope that helps.

Great if you have an auto. Hard to build boost at the line with a manual unless you have a line-lock, and your clutch won't put up with it for long. If you get a dual disc to put up with the boost-building, it will shift slower than a single disc.

And waiting for the turbo to spool between shifts is painful. I bet you lose 1 second or more in the 1/4 because you lift the throttle to shift. LOTS of fuel helps, I guess, but I think a smaller turbo is better. Add some water/meth if you have egt issues.

An auto is much better, you never loose boost.

Thank You for catching my mistake JCleary. I didn't do enough homework before posting. Bigdan does indeed have a 6speed. For a 6 speed app. ditto what JCleary said. Thanks man.

BigDan.

Have you driven a truck with a large single, and then one with twins? If not get a hold of Mattymac and maybe he would let you drive his SPS66 3rd gen. I can throw on my slowest spooling twins and let you drive mine. It's old and won't spool as good as a 3rd gen, but you could at least get an idea without spending a bunch of money. I live a short distance away from Mattymac. (near Marysville and Yuba city).

Yes todays big singles will make as much hp as twins, but they aint the same.

You have to drive/ride in both. I have a 66class single and Really want twins, for whatever that is worth. No boubt, if money is an issue you may not have a choice but there is more to the equation than peak hp.
