Going west,any grade issues?

Other than EBAY - where to look for

I do have to admit I have been cut off by a speeding truck driver dangerously weaving in and out of traffic and as he cut me off he blew a tire and all I could do was put the tread he lost between my two front tires in my grandmothers new body style durango I was driving. it tore up some plastic, mainly the air dam. So before I traded in the durango shortly after I took the bumper cover off and sawzawed of the air damn that was tore up and ground it clean. I traded it in and the dealer never knew the difference. But that was straight up ignorant of the trucker. I just let him keep going. he wasn't for trying to catch to cut off and maybe throw an empty pizza box (I have been know for this on tailgating cars) at his windshield.

Truckers Reputation with me worse

I have lost so much of my respect for truckers. Just last night I was returning from north Richmond, VA on I-95, six lane and a trucker had his rig two or three miles above speed limit, while right two lanes were open. On cruise control, and with signs that state no trucks in left lane. Eight cars were backed up behind the single rig. Its like this every night. I was way back, wondering what the blockage was.

I slowly passed him in the center lane and signalled to the left lane upon closing on a vehicle in front. So I pulled down to no more than one MPH over speed limit, and the trucker moved his cruise control operation to the center lane. The traffic had all went around him in the right lanes, more than ten vehicles.

Most of these unprofessional drivers are local rigs, as for instance this one had VA plates. In this case, the OTR rigs use I-295 around Richmond.

I tow alot. Loaded trailers of all types should stay out of the left lane other than short passes. Owners towing horses here in south east quite often get in the left lane and stay there, as well mid size SUV towing enclosed trailers. Too, Powerstroke pickups most often do not yeild. Its almost a stereotype of who will not be courtesous and yeild to the right for traffic catching up. Since I put a lot of interstate time I am more and more easing by in the right lane for those who do not yeild.

I call these drivers on cruise control in the left lane:

"LEFT LANE LAZY"

For those that don't know about the DOT number, it is located on the side of the cab usually under the door or on the sleeper. When a driver is hauling their company trailer there is often a telephone number on the rear door of the trailer. Have your co-pilot write these numbers down as well as the number of the highway and time of day. You can make the call at home. Ask the transport company for the Safety Officer. Anyone less may discard your observation.

Help the safety minded professional drivers save lives and bring down their insurance rates by eliminating the self serving criminal drivers.

WE NEED YOUR HELP.

Happens to truckers every day. Gettin' worse instead of better.

Too true. :(

I've even brake checked for absolutely any reason at all, with livestock. I'll be running down the pokey lane on the interstate, a car or minivan will pass me and come over in front of me. THEN, they slam on the brakes when NOTHING was in front of them. #@$%! Hearing the cattle slam into the front of the trailer makes me cringe. It's even worse when hauling fats. There aren't that many in the trailer. LOTS of room to move around in a 51' trailer. I gate them inside, but still... ... .....

It should be a required part of drivers ed before people can get a license that they ride in a big rig and see how they work and what they can't do (stop on a dime or do evasive maneuvers like a sports car. )

I go one step farther. They must ride in a big truck that is pulling a 6000 gallon smooth-bore tanker that is about 2/3 full, and do a poor job of shifting. The surge will make them wet their pants, and hopefully scare some respect into them. Make them think twice before cutting a rig off.

Why are truck drivers more "important" then any other driver? I surly don't need my time or fuel wasted... Why is it ok for that truck to cut me off on a 2 lane road and take 10 miles to pass that other truck at 1/8mph faster. ?

It's not a matter of importance. Only of curtesy. It ****** me off when some of the truckers take 10 miles to pass as well. However, I have seen plenty of cars do the same, so they aren't immune from stupidity. I've noticed it seems to be mostly the company drivers that doesn't have the power to pass. They should just back out and get back over behind the truck that they tried to pass. I've had to do that when I've lost my steam, whether it was because of the grade, the dummy in front of me slows down.

Sometimes the 4 wheelers don't help matters any either. I've backed out before, and as soon as a hole is big enough for them to fit, they fly around when I signal to get out of the way, and they fly up along side of me, preventing getting over.

I used to come home from hauling my race car trailer (about 12k lbs. ) in a bad mood. My wife would ask me why and I would tell her, "you need to ride with me". A few months later, she rode with me from Houston to New York state and back. She was incredulous at the people pulling in front of me at the last minute. I stay in the right hand lane and stay 5 mph or more under the speed limit.
