Thanks for the informative posts on your experience with these products. FYI, Power Service @ Wal Mart is $4. 44 for 32 oz. They say the bottle is good for 100 gallons. Furthermore, "For faster injector clean-up & maximum cetane boost, add 32oz to each 50 gallons of diesel fuel".

Unless within the last 2 years, the others have changed, I saw the benchmark testing of all the major brands, and nothing even came close to the Stanadyne Performance Formula.

It is the only one created by a pump and injector manufacturer, and it is the only one endorsed by equipment manufacturers. John Deere used to, but now sells it under their own name. GM, and Ford both did years ago.

It is the ONLY one I will ever buy. Some of them contain solvent, alcohol, or other nasty stuff, and are not good for your equipment. But, I don't recall which is which...

I agree with Power Wagon, Stanadyne Performance Formula does everything you want and more. I have been using it since I bought my 1993 4X4 new.

diesel fuel addative

my truck has 175000 km. been using cummins premium fuel addative. seems to work good have not had any injection pump problems. mileage summer 26to28 winter 24 to 26 . :) :) :)

I just checked out the DIS site. If you look at the following link you can see that their test was done using a 1:250 ratio:

http://www.dieselpage.com/addtest.htm

Then look at this link:

http://www.dieselpage.com/add1.htm

You can see that the recommended mix is 1:500. It seems to me to be very sneaky. On the one hand they say their product makes a difference at 1:250, but when they try to rationalize the cost they use 1:500. Apples to Oranges. Does it do anything at 1:500? Who knows.

Stanadyne is just too hard to get I've never seen it over the counter, just imagine having to order your diesel fuel over the internet.

The only thing I add is 1 gal of diesel drain oil per 200 gal. Mainly use it for appearance sake. Makes my fuel a nice black color. :p

Bill, did you move?

FYI, from the Cummins web site:

Are fuel or oil additives recommended for use with the Cummins 24-Valve Turbo Diesel?

Fuel or oil additives are not necessary on the 24-valve engine, provided factory recommended oil and fuel specifications are followed. Consult your owner's manual for proper guidelines.

Socal Rattler, I agree with Cummins' answer. Problem is, I don't know that the fuel specifications are being met. When I buy oil, I know the specs are met but fuel... ... That's why I use additive. I get as much as 2 mpg difference using fuels from different stations. That tells me there is a difference. I was consistently getting 18 mpg until I changed fuel stops. My mileage immediately went up. I could go back to BP and it would drop back to 18. Use Phillips 66 and it would go back up to 20 (before my timing was optimized :p ). Then there is the possibility of getting some really bad stuff. The bad stuff not only stops up filters, but has silica and some hard metals that are extremely corrosive and abrasive to the system. I don't use additives in the oil but I do in the fuel.

i bought my truck with 60k mi on it. took it to cummins jessup and we pulled the injectors. they were black and had a lot of black crap all around the tips. i doubt the previous owner used additive. stanadyne performance is what i use now. i doesn't make a difference in the mileage that i can tell yet. it is actually easier to get cause i don't have to fight all of the people at walmart. i just ordered online and it showed up. nice and easy. but then again, i buy my books from amazon.

Shendren, Cummins makes a cleaner that you run full strength through your system for cleaning the injectors when they are carboned up. It comes in a black bottle and is called something PLUS. According to Cummins South, you run a feed line to a one gallon bottle and run the engine directly from the bottle. you can buy it in pint and quarts for additive. I think I would just by a quart, put it in the filter cannister and run it from there. I'd be afraid of the consequences of running it out of a gallon jug and losing prime at the end. Like you, I juse Stanadyne Performance on a regular basis. How much is it online. It's $65 a case from the turbo shop. That's a little pricey.
