My SRW one tonners are registered as Farm Vehicles. Even without the farm plates, they typically register it under commercial status. Another thing, the DPS (Arizona Highway Patrol) will pull you over and ticket for a lack of mud flaps (Yes, even on a non-dually) if the truck is a 3500. I speak from experience.

Wow I did not think mine was registered commercial but just went and looked. The license plate does not say commercial but on the registration paper it show GVW 8000# $8 and 9530# CRF is another $8 so I guess it is. I wonder how the DPS knows if the plate does not say anything? I ran around for kind of a long time without mud flaps and was never stopped. I do have mud flaps now though and yes it is a dually. I think I would have to argue, maybe a losing argument, in traffic court for not having mud flaps. I would think the dealer would be required to provide new 3500 trucks with them on if the state required them. I am sure it is a safety thing to have them and does makes sense but still puzzling.
Bob,
Maybe I am missing something, but I would think the GVW for a Dually should be more than 8,000and what is CRF ???
When I registered my truck (03 3500 quad cab) I was told about it having to be registered as commercial but when i took it to my insurance agent he told me nothing about having to insure it as a commercial truck. Should i? or does that not apply to me since I only use it as a personal vehicle?
This is my best guess only. I dont it makes a hill of beans difference if you insure the truck commercially or not unless you haul goods for a living. They have time for B. S. registration rules while these "visitors" drive by our front porch untouched. I am sure this guy is registered commercial.![]()
