I just need a little help, I am not taking head off just want to do the one bolt at a time thing. Studs are used 425s.

Do I start with the bolt that is the first one listed in the service manual, and torque it through each step (50lbs ft, 75lbs, 90lbsft then to ARPs 125 lbsft) before moving on to the next head bolt or do I just torque to step one (50lbs ft) leave it at that and move onto the next head bolt, then go back through them all for the next torque sequence (75lbsft 90lbsft then 125lbsft)steps once all the studs are in? The ARP instructions dont really say?

Thanks in advance

Do them one at a time in any order. Remove one bolt then replace with a stud and torque it down to about 115-120. No need to step it up. Do all of them then go back and do a final tq up to your 122 or 125 or whatever you're using. There are 6 or 7 studs that are slightly longer than the rest, these go nearest to the exhaust manifold.

I would probably follow the torque sequence listed in the manual (torque 3Xs each stud) then move to the next stud in the sequence. Moly lube and slow and steady turn until torque is reached is best. Finish up by plugging the block heater in until max temp is reached (3~4hrs) then do a final re-torque. This will allow bolts to expand with some added heat, this way you can retorque before any fire is put into the cylinders. After which some say to retorque after so many heat cycles, miles, etc... .
