Diesel Smell, how do ya get rid of it?

Exactly, Murphy's law. The worst part is that I know that I will eventually get stuck with the cost of an Injection Pump. I just don't want my family (or anyone for that matter) to get injured/killed because the pump failed and the car died at an inopportune moment. Damn Chrysler for not building a cummins diesel SUV.

6.5 pumps

Over the years a lot was learned about the pumps in the 6. 5 just like our Cummins. The location down in the V of the motor under the intake was shall we say a little hot. They had the electronics on the pump " pmd" and was a leading cause of there failures. A lot of the VP44 failures in our trucks can be traced to that same heat prblem but not a severe as the V8 configuration. I installed a remote mount for the pmd on top of the manifold with cooling fins and that pump is still going with 120,000 miles now. That subject has been discussed for our pumps but the electronics can't be seperated from the pump like the 6. 5. The earlier non electronic 6. 5s were pretty reliable pumps and if they failed it was due to changes in diesel fuel in the mid 90s that they were not designed for. Our VP 44 is also cooled by the fuel passing through it so one more reason to not let your fuel tank get to low. DW
