Recently I noticed a truck that looked exactly like mine going around town. Solid red, 2WD shortbed, diesel, quad cab... the whole works. Needless to say I was kind of disturbed of the fact since its a rather small town by comparison and everyone seems to know everyone else by what they drive. Only difference was the sound. Mines a 24V straight pipe and his was a rather quiet truck. Judging from sound alone I was guessing it was a 12V as the sound at lower rpm is "less noisy" so to speak.

As it turns out this person traded it in at the local Dodge dealership for a new Cummins diesel. I believe this because tonight I saw it awaiting detailing with the other trade-ins. Plus I cannot find the 04 truck I was eyeballing on the new lot.

So naturally I had to stop and give it a good look. Its a SLT with all the options inside. Mines an ST... fairly plain. Its an auto, mines a 5speed. Other than the SLT badge, the outsides are identical. Next I'm thinking "look at the badges for 24V Cummins Turbo Diesel". No 24V... just "Cummins Turbo Diesel". So I'm thinking its a 12V. Superb condition, dark grey cloth mint condition, not a scratch in the bed, tires are Michelin OEM's, underneath is spotless black. So then I get to wondering what I would do with 2 red Cummins Diesel Dodges. People wouldn't understand I wanted it because it had the 12V engine.

Now the strange part. I was shocked to notice the drivers side 2500 emblem said "24V Cummins Turbo Diesel". ???. I wonder if this was the last of the last. Emblems ran out in St. Louis so they had to use what they had. I couldn't pop the hood. And couldn't tell from underneath. Looking up at a 47RE is foreign to me and the bottom ends look the same anyway. . I did notice I'd rather have my Dana 80 however. I guess all I can do is stop in tomorrow and see what the engine actually is. Sure sounded like a 12V the few times I saw it.

I guessed maybe it was wrecked and repainted hence the wrong badges. But if it was... they sure know how to match red and mask off areas to perfection as no evidence existed anywhere of past body work. It was all fine looking.

Anyone ever seen a 12V with an accidental 24V side emblem on one side or both?

Hey---

you would drive them both :)

Anyways, i guarentee the truck was painted at one time, prob when it was fairly new. maybe it was hit hard, maybe not. If the body shop ordered a 98 emblem i guarentee they would get the 24v since 98 was known as the first year of it!

good luck

Turns out it was purchased there originally by an older gent who became ill shortly after. He was really unable to use it for his intended purpose which was towing a small camper on trips. It was a 24V and was never wrecked. They cannot explain the wrong emblem on the pass door except the dealership said they have seen worse... such as Plymouth Neons coming with some Dodge emblems on half the car. But they are the only ones who have worked on it and its not been wrecked. One look and you can definately tell too.

As stated its 24V. Stunning underhood condition. Black paint still on exhause manifold. Every nut and bolt still perfect and shiny. Original Mopar batteries, original tires, not one thing out of place or the slightest hint of dirt.

You have to understand... it only has 13,688 miles. WOW! Only thing is a very minor ding right above the driver tail light where he hit something backing up in his garage. I would suspect a few hundred would fix it. The salesman is my friend and fellow CTD owner and is a very honest person. THe guy I saw driving it once or twice is another salesman there who bought it from the guy and tried the diesel "thing". With no real use... he opted to go ahead and buy a new 1500.

Anyway... its not a 12V afterall... but one very fine 24V truck. Almost like finding a Hemi Challenger in a barn in mint original condition.
