jsimpson,

In addition to my truck, I have a 31' Hitchhiker II 5th wheel and a Lance 990 slide in truck camper. I also have a old IH Cub Cadet Model 782--the last ones painted red and built by International Harvester before they sold the line to MTD. It has a 2 cylinder Kohler engine, Hydrostatic Drive, Hyd. Lift and the same cast iron Cub Tractor rear axle that IH used for years. MTD dropped that axle because it was too expensive and went to a cast aluminum(pot metal) axle.

I bought my wife a new John Deere 345 Lawn Tractor last year--Kawasaki 2 cylinder engine and a Japanese hydrostatic transmission--now that's progress isn't it!! #ad

I'm about to add a hydro to my stable - probably a 149. Got to have something to mow with while I'm restoring the others. You do anything special to the truck to handle the lance? I don't know what the difference is bewteen my 900 and your 990. Mine was full of carpenter ants when I got it. Had to disassemble it to get them out!

jsimpson,

My first Cadet was a used 127, 12 HP, hydrostatic drive. It had been used by a commercial outfit and was really used. I had to put a new short bolck in it(I don't think they ever cleaned the air cleaner or changed the engine oil). I ran it for several years and sold it to my brother who still mows with it.

The Lance 990 is almost the same floor plan as the current 1030, but it is 11'3" long and has the extended cab over. I don't know what the layout of the 900 looks like.

I have just purchased the 990 and haven't had it on the truck yet. I have already installed Rancho 9000s and will put on Air Lift 500 air bags and a have ordered Tork-Lift tie downs. I have used Happy-Jacs before and really didn't think they that good. We have some trips planned in the 5th wheel so it will be sometime in October before we try out the camper on the truck.

That enough?

As my "Irontrader" name implies, I'm into antique tractors and stationary engines. Been in the hobby about 25 years and wish I still had all the tractors and engines that have passed through my ownership. I also publish the "Western Antique Iron Trader" which is a classified ads publication for collectors of tractors and engines.

Don,

You ought to buy my 1940 AC A. Big engine, big tires, etc. Pulls pretty good. I was going to pull it, but the local club dropped the "antique" part and I'd be stuck pulling against modern diesel tractors. The old iron is fun, but its hard to complete against more modern equipment.
