Looking to install the sender on my '95 today, about the only "easy" way I'm seeing to do it is to put a tee in the rubber hose behind the trans cooler. Has anyone found a better place or know what type of tee to use?Any other words of wisdom would be appreciated.
Thanks,Bill

I put mine in the front test port on passenger side of the transmission, just above the pan. Unscrewed the brass plug and screwed the sender in.

I've been looking up posts on this one for two days.
Some put it in the output line to the cooler with a "T" fitting, others have it mounted in the pan.
Whats the test port for and is it a place to get a good reading?

I put on a Dodge/Mopar cooler line with a temp sensor fitting already in it. It also contains an anti-drain back valve (check valve) and it reads the hottest oil temp location. Cost was $90. 00 and worth it in my book.
Ron

Ron,my truck had a recall in '96 where a line with a anti-drainback valve was installed,I wonder if it's the same thing you speak of. The test port seems like the easy way,but does it measure pan temp?I've always heard that pan readings aren't that accurate.

Use the Mopar transmission line that was OEM in 1994 and has a 3/8" NPT fitting in it. Around 95 they put the temp sensor inside the trans (the one that tells it when it's OK to give you overdrive) and the later lines don't hve the fitting. It sells for about $90. You can burn up the torque converter lockup clutch, etc. and not see enough difference in pan temp to clue you in.

Mr. Donnelly, what oem trans line are you talking about? is it the line from the trans to the cooler? did you replace the whole line/ I guess for us rock heads we need more specifics!!!!!( any part #'s)?
Thanks, Hov.

Anyone know if this will work for the Autometer 4351 trans temp kit on a 1999? The kit has a big 2 inch long sensor at the end of the line and a 1/2 inch NPT fitting. (like the kind for mounting in the pan.

HOV,

It's hard to picture what you are talking about. It is very important that the sensor not interfere with the flow of the transmission fluid in any way. The sensor that should fit in there looks almost like a small spark plug (brass). I just bought the '94-'95 transmission line for my '01 and plan to install it next week or so. The sensor I have required a reduction fitting to go from the line's 3/8" NPT to a 1/4" NPT (I think... ). Anyway, the tip of the sensor doesn't enter the normal flow of the fluid. Don't know if this helps or not. My 2 cents.

This may be the part you need. I'm going with the same setup but have not ordered the manifold yet. I wasn't sure this is the right one. http://www.carparts. c om/parts/newsearch2. asp?OrderIdentifier=ID13768015368000272&reflink=0-0-0-0-0&sourceid=2&parttypeid=3065&itemid=5133&autoidsearch=NO

Another $90. 00 for the MoPaR part would put my guages in the "expensive" catagory. (Not that $36. 00 for a metal block is much better)
Maybe one of the MoPaR discounters can get the trans line for less?

Ray

Rather than spending $90. 00 for a replacement line, go to your local hardware store and get the following;

(1) 3/8" Brass Female NPT Tee
(2) 1/2" Compression to 3/8" Male NPT Fitting

The parts run about $6. 00. You may need a 1/4 X 3/8 fitting for the sensor depending on what brand your using and what they supply for fittings. The Tee goes into the front line from the transmission to the cooler on the right side of the engine. It can be installed directly in front of the trans pan. Loosen and remove the line where it goes int o the trans. Total removal is not required.

I installed this on my own vehicle and on Kat Diesels and it works great.

If Illflem's truck is a 95 he allready has the line with the with the factory sensor in it so it wouldn't help to buy anotherone.

Tony at Dunrite told me to put the sensor in the middle plug on the passenger side on my 95.
