Personally I don't think I would build a transmission without a billet input, there is more than just the material. When I got my first transmission built it was back in 02' and billet was unavailable. When the hub finally let go 1. 5 years later I got a chance to see the two side by side and if it would have had a billet shaft in it would not have failed.

The other thing to look at is what will it cost the put these in later and what will it cost if one breaks.

I am just now getting ready to pull my Transmission and I went back and forth regarding the billet input shaft. I only wanted to do this once so I bought it and I am glad that I did. I was expecting this thing to be some massive chunk of steel but it, and the stock shaft, are only 1 1/32" in diameter. And it is hollow in the center, drilled for fluid flow. I am not surprised that they break.
