$3.20 for a gallon of Diesel !!!

Six Dollar a Gallon fuel in Atlanta.. 31 August

change your habits? I mean we all have stuff now BUT if the price keeps going up say to 4 - $5/gallon will you still drag a trailer around??????? I know some will BUT I'll bet that business - I mean the RV TRailer business will go in the hole! I mean you see very few trailers in Europe... ... and No 5th wheelers even where you could drive them... . Afterall they do have class 8 trucks,,,,

Actually, around here the trailer business seems to be booming and the campgrounds are booked solid (moreso than usual). What I've heard tossed around is that with increased fuel prices more people are camping closer to home rather than taking vacations to far off places. Should be interesting.

We find we're camping closer to home, but staying longer... maybe a month somewhere we enjoy. What you save on fuel, you can spend on campground fees.

A month sounds great, but some people are still working. :-laf

The price of gas doesn't stop me from doing what I want. I don't really think about it to be honest with you. It sucks, but what am I going to do about it? I'm not changing my lifestyle.

I think for the most part my driving habits won't change much if at all. I suspect I'd still have the truck as my primary transportation, although I'd start to seriously look into the possibility of making a homebrew setup for converting WVO or fresh veggie oil to biodiesel, especially if I could find a few larger tanks to store the veggie oil and converted fuel in. My old truck got about 12-13mpg (empty). I can get 21mpg in this thing (also empty) if I keep my foot out of it.

I can't see myself selling the boat over the price of gas either. I may use it a little less, or spend more time anchored on the lake than under power but overall I don't think my habits there will change too dramatically either. If the prices were to get really bad I'd consider a diesel conversion and run it on homebrew biodiesel as well...

My habits can't change much. I have never been one to do much unnecessary driving. I live about 16 miles from the nearest town and 18 miles from my work place. If I need something and it is not an emergency I will wait until the next day and get it when I get off work. I do welding and auto repair in my "spare" time and it is hard to justify adding a $10 charge for a parts run to a job that only requires a $5 part. I value my customer's money as much as I do my own.

IMO, if everyone had this philosophy our (the U. S. ) oil consumption would be drastically reduced. We are a nation on the go, and oil prices are gonna apply the brakes for us.

I wonder how fuel prices are affecting those businesses that have traditionally relied upon minimum wage part-time labor? Kids that live a fair distance from employment possibilities may find that it is no longer economically feasible to work. My son used to work at a cinema and the "manager" would divvy up the hours between so many kids that it wouldn't much more than pay his gas into town, and this was when gas was "only" $2 a gallon. IMO that was poor management.

I was near Mono Lake last friday, the station in Lee Vinning(sp?) had diesel at $3. 79 a gallon. I thought my $2. 95 fillup before I left was bad! I don't think it will affect me too much but I am considering alternate forms of transportation and/or fuel.

Well, I'm cutting expenses where and when I can, Just bought a 29' TT and will be moving into it at the end of this month, getting rid of 1200 or so a month in rent and utilities for about 400 a month lot rent and utilities. It's just me and the then the 2 boys every other weekend. All my stuff's going into storage until I can buy some land and build my shop with living quarters. Then I'll start making my own fuel. As well as invest in solar and wind power. I'm hoping to be able to live off the grid if need be.

I have the luxury of working from home and my wife stays home raising the 3 little ones. So we are not effected by high prices like some families. I can imagine if i were still commuting 62 miles a day like i used to. the purse strings would be cinched for sure.

Our camping trips/habits havent changed either. in fact, this weekend (Thursday after work) we are driving 4 hours away to spend the holiday weekend at Turkey Bay in Land Between the Lakes KY.

I did run out sunday night and fill both tanks on the truck planning for price hike. it was $2. 39 a gal, i got 52.

Filled my Ramcharger and got 5 gal. for the lawn mower Monday, $94. 00, and to think I almost had a stroke the first time it took $20. 00 to fill up the car. Change my driving/travel habits, hey I'm changing my grass cutting habits. bg

I just bought 300 gallons of diesel at 2. 57 Hopefully it will last me 4-5 months until this market stabilizes again... . if it ever does.

$4. 00 per gallon in the southeast states? I think I'll quit griping about the high prices in California, they might end up being the cheapest!, this isn't intended to start a political argument but I find it interesting that GWB wouldnt release from the reserves to ease the price of fuel for the consumer but he is going to release it to help the refiners, they seem to be suffering a little economic distress after Katrina, wouldn't you think $4. 00 a gallon would alleviate their pain a little? Oo. :{

Driving habits changing??? You bet your bippy mine have. The truck stays home and only comes out on the weekends. I now use my VW Jetta TDI exclusively to commute (I drive 150 miles round trip for work a day). I will start working from home one day a week starting next week.

- No more Dunkin Dounuts and coffee in the mornings (3. 25+ a day)

- Bringing lunch to work instead of buying lunch (4. 50 a day)

- Pondering if I might (no I can't say it), have to smoke cheap machine made cigars

instead of hand rolled ... Oh my God what is this world coming too!

- No more driving over 65 mph.

HELP!!! with over 15 different trucks and pieces of equipment to fill up,you need not think i aint hurtin. the amount of work i do for private citizens has just about dropped to nothing since about the begining of july. if most my stuff wasnt paid for,i would likely be goin under. just think, winter is just round the corner!!

I have an elk tag in December and canceled my scouting trip this labor day weekend, would have liked to have gone camping but it just isn't fun when it's $125 for a tank of diesel. I just hope it doesn't get to $4 a gallon. I sure would hate to have to cancel the hunt. I know that our less populated counties need the dollars that the sportsmen spend this time of year. The only good news is my diesel gets better mileage than the Dakota I had.
