Went to PepBoys today and got some transmission fluid for the Jeep. I asked if they might have some ATF+3 for the old Dodge. Was told they no longer carry it but on checking, another store had 5 cases and the price was $1 a bottle.

I didn't take them all so if anyone in Tucson needs some check the store on Speedway.

If for putting in the tank, i'm all for it. If for the transmission, i'd say use the ATF+4, it's a synthetic version of the +3.

I'd strongly urge to NOT burn any type of ATF as a fuel. I've read it is quite hard on the VP as well as the injectors. ATF+3 should be just fine in your trans if that's what the manual calls for (my 99 does). ATF+4 is likely a better fluid but is it necessary? This can be argued both ways successfully. ATF+4 definitely costs more. ATF+3 is also fine for the transfer case if you've got a 4x4

DTT used to recommend the +3 but since it is no longer available they say to use Dexron III with some additive. I'm just happy to find some so cheap. To change out all the fluid in the transmission for under $25 makes me real happy.

You scored bigtime. I ran ATF+3 as recommended in my '99's DTT and it worked great.
